Boy, talk about a trap. On one hand, the "darkside" get laid into for bitching about things, then we get asked what our bitch is.

I guess for my answer you'll have to refer to my previous *******, because those haven't been addressed.

Well, since its obvious that you're gonna bitch no matter what, don't let me throw any sunshine on your parade or stifle your creativity. :grabs:

Funny, I don't consider Jason to be a darksider, Pariah either.

So essentially you and the others are saying "The Bidwills are cheap" and that Rod Graves is to stupid to realize the salaries would go up.

Why don't you just come out and say that. Everything else you and the other say appears to be little more than window dressing around this core statement.

Bill Bidwill Snr is in direct control and is too cheap to pay FA salaries. He hired Rod Graves as Rid is nothing more than a yes man for BB Snr.

Is this what you mean ?

I'll say it. The Bidwills are cheap. They are the impetus behind our philosophy. The team frontloads contracts specifically so that the team does not spend extra money outside of cap limitations. I think Graves toes the company line and is little more than a glorified 'yes' man. I do think that the team has given him a little more leeway in signing FAs, but if he signs a big-namer, he's pretty much done. I also think that Graves has a terrible GM mind. He misreads trends and tries to make crafty decisions that blow up in his face.

I think Whiz sees the talent at skill positions, and that is why he came here. I think he is willing to build through the draft and coach up what we have. I don't think that will be enough, but I think that's why he took the job.

Right or wrong, we're being mismanaged. If we have been using the cap so poorly and conservatively for years simply to pocket money, we're hideously mismanaged and being ripped off as fans. If we've been doing it to save up for a run in this present FA period and Graves simply dropped the ball and didn't follow the trend to the logical conclusion that this FA period would suck, then we have a clueless GM.

Hey, I ain't afraid to say it, Nidan. We still don't have an NFL FO.

So if Rod Graves run things, does this mean he made the decision to structure contracts like this? He is so the best GM in the league.

No, ask some on the board here, must still be Dennis Green's fault. Or maybe Mike Bidwill's fault. Possibly Coach Mac. Can't be Graves . . .

As Big T stated (and I agree) with the FA class as wimpy as it is, why not stick your resources into this year and hope that next year is better (and you have more cap room to capitalize on that market). It may not be the popular thing to do, but it is a strategy.

Wow, don't we usually wait until we're 0-4 for the "hope that next year is better" talk?

So what you Darksiders are saying is the Cardinals should have send gobs of cash on mediocre players ?

This was a bad year for FA, we all know that. In fact certain posters here were warning us of that and how we would never be able to spend our cap money.

This way we don't get stuck with those mediocre players in, what most would admit is a fairly unique year with the start of a new CBA.

It's not about worth or overpaying [love that term ... not], it the fact that there really wern't a lot of good FA this year and many teams had cash to sign the ones theat were there. Most articles I've read think the Cowboys were insane to pay LD what they did.

But there were some players that WERE worth monster money and we HAD monster money and we didn't pursue them. We are perennially a 5 win or less team. Think some of those more talented FAs could have helped? Yes, a losing team has to pay a premium. Pay the damn premium! And you stated it yourself, this is a new era with the salcap. More teams are locking up their better players. That means the market WILL be greater for mediocre players. The cards should have seen this coming and adapted accordingly. Sitting on your money and not be creative is the same thing they preached years ago when the Niners and Cowboys were spending creatively and going into cap hell. Guess what? They were great teams, spent some time in cap jail, and are already much better than us again. What did we get during that stretch? Nothing. WHOOOP-DE-FREAKING-DOOOOOO!

It appears to me that much of this negative sabre rattling is much like last years criticism of the team "not spending the cap".

Heaven's to Betsy, the regular season is still like 6 months away. We are only something like a week into free agency. The draft has not occured yet. There are still the June cuts coming.

Crying rivers now about the cap spending is more than a little premature IMO.
Just like last year, by the end of the year the Cards had used up the cap space. And now, hindsight is showing that the money was well spent. Even the "darksiders" themselves have ackowledged that last years resignings of our own players was money well spent.

So I say, as usual, all this "sky is falling" stuff is much more than a little premature.
Save all the moaning, groaning and whatnot until the regular season starts, until then I predict that most of these protestations getting flung about now, will end up just like the majority of those in the past....vaporized into nothingness when all is finally said and done !!!

you're really conjuring up last year to make a point? If this year turns out like last year then we suck again. Terrific! Don't you think the "sky is falling" stuff is not premature if every year you guys say it's premature and it turns out to be right? In some circles they call that accurate forecasting!

Hey, Mr. Writer: "Laid" up in bed.

;)

What's wrong?

got into a nasty go-kart accident that triggered an old bad disc injury... and yes, it's as stupid as it sounds.

2. Top management (i.e. Bidwill Sr) did a 180 on Rod --- when Rod said he wanted 7 or 8 guys, he thought he had $X million to sign free agents, and then learned later that he only had 1/2 of $X million. Contracts were structured accordingly to eat up cap space to provide a modicum of "cover" from media and the fans. Given the management disfunction, this is plausible.

Damnit Fuego! You just gave Nidan another get outta jail free card for Graves!

So you really think that Wiz took a job where he has no say at all in FA and drafting ?

I GET IT! You're already setting Whiz up for the next failure so that it won't be Graves' fault again! I swear Nidan, if I hadn't met you in person I'd swear you WERE Rod Graves. Maybe Graves has somehow gotten control of Nidan's password, or he's using some jedi mind trick on him . . . Brighteyes, WATCHOUT!

(Nidan, you know I'm only messing with you good-naturedly, but I honestly can't fathom how much you love Rod Graves and he always gets a pass with you)

This is such an outrageous over simplification it doesn't even warrant a serious reply !

Really? I think it's the most damning bit of evidence connected to the Cardinals. There is nothing so strong and consistent as that statement.
