NY Magazine reports that in order to utilize the sets, actors, and writers standing by, Starz is developing a prequel series. A younger actor could replace Whitfield, keeping audiences interested until Whitfield can return for Season 2. There's no word yet on whether co-stars like Lucy Lawless and John Hannah would be involved in the prequel.

So is this one and done? BTW, way too many male frontal nudity shots. :nono:

Where did you hear it was one and done? It was easily Showtime's best rated show.

The finale was pretty kick ass--and the last few episodes had A LOT of nudity, but they seemed to tone down the male nudity.

Why? They would be doing this to bridge the gap between Season 1 and Season 2. From what I heard, they still plan to move forward with Season 2, but with the lead actor going through cancer treatments, it might be a longer-than-usual wait. So they decide to do a prequel to keep fans satisfied. Seems like a smart business move to me.

I didn't hear it. I was asking if anyone knew. I like the show and hope it is not one and done. I'm guessing the female audience enjoys the chorus line.

Why? Well, to answer that, I'll give you the simple statement that a friend gave me when I gave her the news: "They already DID a prequel; it was called the first few episodes!"

Prequel? What, young Spartacus growing up in Thrace? We'd have to *gasp* hear his real name!

I understand they want to do it to use the set and props and all, but I wouldn't be interested in the least. I like that they plan to move forward with season two after a bit of a hiatus, and I respect that they want to maximize their profits. I just think it's a pretty bad idea.

I would think a prequel might revolve around Doctore and Crixus more than it would Spartacus.

Ah Ha!!! You like this show?

Don't be giving me grief for liking Transformers.

:)

You watched 10 minutes of the pilot (which wasn't good). I've watched the entire movie of Transformers, I'm not sure how much of an authority you are on Spartacus. No offense. :D

Watch a few more episodes, and then we'll talk.

I have seen Spartacus the movie several times. :) Somehow, I doubt historial scholarship has anything to do with this show.

I refuse to watch any more of this series.

I don't think anyone, let alone me, claimed it was historically accurate. It's super-cheesy and the acting is subpar, but it's definitely got a comic book vibe to it, much like 300.

It's too bad you're so stubborn, the series got a lot better as it went along and like I said earlier, the finale was kick ass. :D

I guess you confused me with your Spartacus comment.

It is on Roku, so I will probably watch it. And like it. :)

In Spartacus he was crucified, but in real life Spartacus was cut down in battle against the Romans. Still a great movie though.

Carry on.

Well, yes, Transformers was cheesy and had bad acting. BUT it wanted to be taken seriously, and that's why it failed.

Since when? I didn't take it seriously.

I didn't either, but if it wanted people to not take it seriously, why was the execution so standard? It wasn't clever at all, no winking to the audience. It was a standard action movie, just like Armageddon.

Exactly. So why so serious about it?

News today is that Andy Whitfield, who was diagnosed with cancer as they were beginning to shoot season 2, has been given a clean bill of health by his doctors. He will appear in 2 episodes of the prequel and then move right into shooting Season 2 in October.
