Speculate: What type of year would it take for MHJ to become Rookie of the Year?

Post what numbers (and W-L record) you think it would take to beat out Caleb or another QB?

I'm guessing it would need to be gigantic. Something like:

1500 yards
13TDs
110 receptions

and a W-L record of 10-7 or better.

Thoughts?

All of the top QBs would have to be super-mid. Like less than 3500 yards passing and fewer than six wins.

I think you’re right on the TDs, but to me FEWER receptions would be key. Chase won OROY with a wild 81/1455/13 line.

Robinson has a better chance at DROY than MHJr has at OROY just due to the QB bias as K9 has mentioned.

Yeah, but you had Stroud. We all agree a WR isn't going to win if the QB crop of rookies is too strong.

Garrett Wilson won it two years ago with 1,100 yards and 4 TDs. Jamarr Chase won it the year before that with 1400 yards and 7 TDs. So, he doesn't have to go that big.

I agree it's more about how the QBs do. They will naturally get a lot more attention. If Caleb Williams is just competent he will most likely win it

Yup. Man, that 2022 draft was a mess if you were looking for skill position players on offense.

But there were 6 QB selected in the top 15 this year.

Since 2010, there have been 22 first-round quarterbacks who started at least 10 games as rookies. 11 of those had a winning record in their rookie season, and 13 of them threw for at least 3,000 yards. So odds are, with most likely around 4-5 rookies starting this season in week 1, that at least one will have a good enough season to win OROY.

It would take all drafted quarterbacks sucking.

Justin Herbert beat Justin Jefferson to offensive rookie of the year and Jefferson had 1400 yards. And Herbert got 82% of the vote.

Any rookie QB that sniffs 4000 yards will win it by default. Caleb Williams seems stuck on to win it with the receivers he has.
