Okay, just saw it last night.

While I enjoyed it, I was also disappointed for many of the reasons already stated.

Couple of things though:

1. I liked his "Bee Gees" descent into darkness. Right before then, Doc Connors said that the symbiote amplified the characteristics of the host. So, Parker was an even bigger dork. Funny.

2. I hated the off-hand way the symbiote was introduced to the movie.

3. How did Eddie Brock/Venom know about Marko/Sandman's daughter?

Saw it today, and while I don't think it was as good as the first two, I certainly don't feel it was the total piece of crap that many are making it out to be.

All of them are worth :grabs:, but none of the movies are Oscar worthy. I was watching the first one on TNT last night. I didn't remember all of the Green Goblin scenes being so bad.

Just terrible.

I HATED his "bad guy" turn.... I didn't know getting an emo haircut and eyeliner and walking around like an idiot made him evil. I couldn't decide if it was Peter Parker or the guitar player from Fall Out Boy.

The dance scene in the club was just awful. Just.... wow.

And the ending with the death over sunrise and the sandman apologizing... tears on both end... then floating into the wind..... just cheese and a half.

Plus I hate Kirsten Dunst (sp?)... I can't help but look at her tic-tac teeth and get grossed out.

Bring on X-Men 4 instead of Spiderman 4

Also, since when did Parker learn how to play a mean piano?

Did that scene remind anyone else of the Jazz flute scene in Anchorman?

Decent matinee film. More along the lines of Fantastic Four level comic book movie than any of the other Spiderman movies.

I didn't like the afterthought introduction of Gwen Stacey.

They should have cut her out, the entire black costume thing, and Venom and put them in the next movie. Gwen, the alien costume, and Venom are three life changing things in Parker's life and to cram that in with Sandman and Harry was just too much.

I told my wife this very same thing.... Venom was his Lex Luthor and he was basically an after thought

No way is Venom Parker's Lex Luthor. No way. He's a relatively "new" villain, only being in existence since the mid-80's.

I agree he wasn't handled well, but the Kingpin is Parker's Lex Luthor, IMO.

I agree. In fact, I'll take it a step further: After the way they amalgamized MJ and Gwen, Gwen Stacy doesn't have a place in the Spider-Man films, IMO.

Although I did like Bryce Howard in the roll.

Kingpin is Daredevil's Lex Luthor IMO. Spidermans Lex Luthor was Doc Octopus.

As for the movie, I always thought the character of Sandman was lame. They tried to make him significant by making him the killer of Uncle Ben but it didn't change much. A whiny villian with a boring ability.

The whole focus of the movie should have been black Spidey Vs Hobgoblin and then Venom Vs Spidey...cut out the whole Sandman garbage.

Maybe. I was trying to think of a villain without flashy superpowers to compare to LL. Kingpin is certainly DD's #1 villain, but I think he's up there on Spider-Man's list, too. He runs NY's underworld.

EDIT: I take it back---the Green Goblin is Spidey's main nemesis. He's his LL.

Venom may not be Parker's "Luthor" (you nailed it with Osborne) but he is his most emotionally powerful villian when handled correctly. He's got all of Spider-Man's powers, doesn't trip his spidey sense, and knows his secret identity.

Venom's orginal arch was easily his best but there's some really good stuff that's been done.

The Osborne thing got out of control in the comics and basically became it's own parody.

Kinpin was simply DC's answer to Lex Luthor (my own opinion) with a twist... if it wasn't for Daredevil he wouldn't even be remembered in the modern era.

Oddly in this movie version you just described Harry Osborn's Green Goblin.
Why doesn't Osborn trip his Spidey-Sense in the film. I didn't know that, but wondered about it at the start of this most recent one.

There was actually ZERO spidey-sense moments in this film. Nothing tripped it!

It's almost like we're supposed to forget one of Spidey's most important powers...

There was one--after he beat the hell out of Osborne, Harry threw a pumpkin bomb at him as he was walking away. He dodged it without being able to see it coming.

But Jack Burton did almost the exact same thing when he killed Lo-Pan in "Big Trouble In Little China", and he didn't have any Spidey-Sense...

...it's all in the reflexes...
