We let both get away free and clear and now I see where we should offer Denver one of our picks to get Greise. What we should do is offer him a bigger bonus then Jake's just to show Denver they don't know what they are doing. We give them Jake for free and now give them a pick to sign their problem child. Real smart. Maybe Russ can justify Greise with his stats. I'm beginning to think that you guys are letting your blind hatered of Jake's earlier contract to color your thinking.

How come you guys aren't commenting on Graves reason for not tagging Boston?

Well, first off plummer boy, no one here hates Jake. Secondly most here don't think we should persue Griese. And we have already beaten to death the topic of not tagging Boston.

Denver only has to pay Jake about 8 million over the first 2 years, so he could be cut easily if he doesn't pan out....sounds very close to what WE thought Jake was worth.

Gee, you forgot to mention that 7 mil of that is upfront. I'm not buying this is close to what WE thought. You guys were talking that don't be surprised if the offers for Jake dry up once he is a free agent. Not worth more then 3 mil.
Krang, who do you think we can get as our QB for 3 mil?
The Cardinal brass is bleeding over their ineptness and your still trying to put lipstick on this "pig of moves." Do you think Fergy or Mac, for that matter, wanted to go this way? Or is it the Guy, Graves, who didn't even have a contract last year, that did this all by himself.

Hey, if they work at it maybe they can get season ticket sales under 20,000 and you'll be able to sit anywhere in SDS for a five spot.

Who cares? Boston doesn't play for us anymore.

But as long as you brought it up - If Boston was such an unstable risk (and I think he is), why did we draft him in the first place? The Cardinal front office (which always makes such a big deal about "character") did a sloppy job of checking this guy's background. (Next on the schedule to exit - another high draft pick- TJ).

But the real point is this - We don't have a starting QB on our roster. We lost our top impact player.

We haven't replaced either (and it looks like we're going to have to sift thru the garbage for scraps). Our ability to hang on to our next most experienced impact wideout is now being challenged by 4 or 5 teams.

Our total free agent signings to date are a big whopping zipity doo dah ZERO.

Right now this team is on a slippery slope to nowhere, and in order to get off, the front office needs to make a signature statement immediately.

Bad football business policy? Perhaps. But sometimes you have to throw away the rule book in order to survive. That sometime is now!

And PS - I've been one guy in favor of keeping Plummer (unless we could replace him with someone better. And I haven't commented one way or another on Boston til now).

I tend to disagree on this.
Here's my reasoning:
The Cards are sitting at the free agency poker table with the biggest roll of cash to spend. Everyone knows it. The Cards have shown they are going to be deliberate players and not foolishly spend it all like a country hick that just hit town with his bundle burning a hole in his pocket, ripe to get conned by the first hooker he meets.
If nothing else, the Cards seem to be establishing a reputation as an up-front organization. Bidwill has a history of honoring his contracts proabably more than any owner in the NFL. Mac has come along and has further built a reputation as an up front guy.
Now Graves seems to be adding to the mix.
Think about this: Why should the Cards, being in the position they are, play the Skins/Danny Snyder game? I think a lot of people might agree that the Skins overpaid in regards to the talent they got for their money.
Some of the players the Cards were interested in were coveted by other teams. The only way you are going to pull them off the market early is to overpay them.
Smart players and their agents are going to get as many offers as they can.
So what does the team do in the meantime?
I'm guessing the Cards are saying something like: "OK, we like you, we ARE very interested, we want you. We realize its in your best interest to visit the other teams you've scheduled. We are prepared to pay as much or more as anyone. Once you have made you rounds we will seriously start to make an offer, and then go from there."
In doing that the Cards aren't running up the score against themselves. If they make a good offer up front, that leaves them wide open for the player and his agent to go to the next team and say, "OK, here's the Card's offer, can you beat that?"
In the long run, by being patient, if they have truly established a rapport and credibility with the player and his agent, they should come out fine down the line as things start to play out.
So far I'd say that is working. As someone pointed out, how many of the players that the Cards brought in have signed elsewhere so far? Thornton is the only one I know of as I post this. Kordell has had an offer, but I've suspected that the Cards interest in him is only lukewarm anyway, and that by offering him a contract that apparantly wasn't anything too outrageous, all they've done is possibly drive the market up a little on him, and in actuality make it easier for the Bears to sign him, if they really want him.
No, I think maybe a lot of people may be underestimating the Cards right now.
They just might end up when all is said and done and all the smoke clears the ones who came out with the most and best talent for the money they spent.

I really do not agree with this theory at all. The best players are coming off the board. If we are playing poker we have not won a hand yet. I think i read it right yesterday when I looked at all the teams in the NFL FA signings. We were one of two that had not signed any outside FA. I see no positive in that at all. Some of these guys do not wait to make the rounds. When they get a good offer from a team they like they sign. We got a boat load of money and that is all we have. We have nothing else to attract a player. We will in the end sign some players but it starting to look like the ones who are good want no part of us. We will sign some who want the money. I am hearing more about guys we may lose than guys we might sign (Roundtree,Barrett,Lassister,etc,etc.). If you think we are playing a good game of poker then come on over and lets play a game of 5 card stud.

FJM: You got the wrong guy when it comes to bashing Boston. I think we were total idiots in letting him go. I see him as another Rice type deal. We just let one of the top receivers in the NFL go for free. You know I have never been a Jake fan but even if the cards wanted to keep him I think he was gone anyway. He wanted out of here and no way were the Cards going to give him the deal he got in Denver.

That's the problem. He does not play for us. Graves either under estimated his worth on the market or he never wanted him. Now, why would you not want a 24 yr old stud WR that is one season away from a pro bowl year? I read that he was sqatting 400 lbs. Does not sound like a knee problem to me. My question is what are we trying to build? A football team or a bunch of great guys who's goal is to be .500.

Right on.
