Any news on the spring game? Those of us who don't live in Tucson are dying to know.

Went to the Spring Game and had mixed emotions about what I saw. Here are a few things that stood out to me:

Surprisingly Scott looked better than Foles. His new throwing motion is much quicker and he seems more accurate. Foles did not look sharp. He didn't seem to be in rhythm at all. I'm not sure who I want starting next year, but I hope the coaches make a decision this fall and stick to it.

Taimi Tutogi the new H-Back is a playmaker. He took some snaps as a RB and was punishing defenders. He also made a great over the shoulder catch.

Devin Ross' replacement Marcus Benjamin is a very solid CB. After watching him step in vs USC and at yesterday's spring game, he might even be an upgrade over Ross.

If Brooks Reed can get back to the way he played his sophomore season he and Ricky Elmore will form the best DE duo in the PAC-10 by a big margin.

There are a lot of young playmakers at the skill position, which should make the offense more exciting this year. Guys like RB Daniel Jenkins and TE Jack Baucus will contribute.

I am falling off the Robert Golden bandwagon really quick. I think Adam Hall or incoming freshmen Marquis Flowers will take his spot by mid season.

Can't wait til next season, Go CATS!

Not surprised, Foles regressed big over the course of the year whereas Scott was always always going to be a project with a huge upside. Foles is what he is. Matt Scott's issues were primarily with reading defenses which can easily be coached.

Tutogi is legit.

Be careful, Ross was an All-Conference performer and an NFL draft pick in a few weeks. Benjamin could be more steady but doesn't have Ross' big play capability.

Yes, but I'll hold off until Brooks finds a way to stay healthy.

Not sure there will be enough balls to go around for those guys, but yeah, we're pretty set at the skill positions.

The guy was essentially benched for Joe Perkins, a hard worker but limited athlete and playmaker halfway through the season. Golden was a great recruit but he probably doesn't have the coverage skills to play in the secondary nor the build to play LB.

Even if they go 6-6 the home schedule in itself is enough of a reason to get excited. Program stability is such a nice thing. Bear Down!

Wow. I am going to say everyone is jumping the gun here a bit. I know Scott outplayed Foles in the spring game, but that happened last spring too. And then Scott played perhaps the worst game I have ever seen from a D-1 QB at Iowa and Foles led the team to one of the best seasons in years. I know he regressed towards the end but we beat two tough defenses in SC and ASU and Nebraska was playing all word at the end of the year.

And its not like Foles was putting together pedestrian numbers and winning. He had a 4 game stretch that was the best QB play I have EVER seen from a Wildcat QB. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Scott's best bet is to get on the field in a Wildcat formation or be one of the better backups in the Pac-10. He is NOT starting over Foles and I'll bet anyone who wants to that come opening day, Scott is riding the pine.

It would be foolish to do otherwise and putting WAY too much emphasis on a freaking bowl game against one of the three best defenses in the nation at the end of the year.

Not true, Foles outplayed Scott in every scrimmage leading up to the 2009 season.

Foles will start Game 1, but if Scott continues to be superior in practice and scrimmages then there will be a short leash. Same situation as last year but in reverse.

Hmm. I thought the refrain from UA coaching on why they didn't get Foles in earlier after his initial success was that he wasn't a "practice player" or Dykes said something along those lines.

I see what you are saying ,but personally see no way Matt Scott is the long term answer at QB. He doesn't know how to read a defense, and while he can learn that, his ball just doesn't look very good either. Very inaccurate in game situations and more of a runner then thrower IMHO.

Conversely I think Foles is the truth and think the defenses, his hurt hand, and teams having tape on him all played into a mediocre finish. I expect him to bounce back.

I don't know anything special either but my percpetion is Scott is a bit of a punk and Foles plays the team leader card like he has always had it.

Guess time will tell, but unless Foles stinks up the joint after 3-4 real games, I see no reason to let ANYTHING Scott does this offseason become the precursor to him being named starter.

Foles earned it on the field.

But your right in that I can see with Stoops not exactly being known for the steady hand and his program needing to show improvement this year, him getting trigger happy and pulling Foles from the job if we dont have success. But I think that would be a mistake.

I agree Scott struggled reading defenses and was afraid to throw the ball at times. But in my opinion his biggest problem was his accuracy. He couldn't complete the short passes like bubble screens or quick slants. When he did make completions the passes were high or behind receivers. I love the kids talent but he's yet to do much in a real game.
