SAN ANTONIO -- In a playoff series already filled with physical play, the San Antonio Spurs are claiming one player from the rival Phoenix Suns should be disciplined for actions in the third quarter of Tuesday evening's Game 2 victory.

KSAT 12 Sports has learned the Spurs have contacted league officials regarding a play involving Suns guard Leandro Barbosa and Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, and have asked for Barbosa to be suspended.

With 1:42 remaining in the quarter, Ginobili and Barbosa bacame tangled up while going for a rebound and fell to the floor. According to sources in the organization, Spurs officials contacted the league to complain about Barbosa hitting Ginobili in the face with an open hand, then slamming his head on the court.

KSAT 12 Sports has learned the league reviewed the play in question and that no action would be taken.

Spurs officials would not officially comment.

after watching it, it's along the same lines as some of the things bowen does. In the flow of the game, you don't really notice it. After you watch a slow mo replay, you can see a lot of things.

I think Barbosa shouldn't have done that, but I think if they didn't call something right away, you can't GO BACK and suspend him. That goes for stuff Bowen does as well. If they get a T or a flagrant foul, then I think you should look at it.

Was barbosa called for a foul on the play, or just Shaq?

Looked like retaliation cause he got clobbered from behind the head. Although it wasn't Gynosebleed that hit him.

it's kind of nice to see manu take a legitimate knock - however, d'antoni and the suns could be seen crying about the foul, which is idiotic - no one bodies manu so he slides in from the side and tips the ball alive - get's put in a head lock by shaq and put on the ground - while heading down gets smacked in the face pretty well

No.. I don't think Barbosa was trying to do that. There was a lot of contact there and I think the weight of Barbosa falling backward and reaching for the ball just made it look worse than it was. Given Barbs HISTORY I don't see him as a dirty player and unless this becomes a habit I'm gonna say it was an accident. I did not see any ill-intent on his part. The BALL was between him and Ginobili, HE BETTER FIGHT FOR IT!

looks like I'm missing something here. It looks like he's being pulled down and is bracing himself.

It's pretty obvious that he doesn't know where his hands are as he's falling.

If it's nothing to me, then I know a Spur would see nothing in it. I mean their used to excusing Bowen and his tactics every other game.

Just because you can't take off the Homer glasses doesn't change the fact that play was a "Bowen Play."

You can't come here and scream and cry over Bruce Bowen and then condone the same action if the player is a Phoenix Sun. Barbosa at minimum deserves a fine for that.

I don't really understand what you are seeing here.

I don't really understand what you are seeing here.

You can't see it on the full speed version, but when they replay it, watch Barbosa's arms as they go to the ground. The arm across Ginobli pushing him down is probably just him trying to catch himself and Ginobli being under him, but watch Ginobli's head right when they hit the ground. After they land, Barbosa takes a shot right at the side of Manu's head as he's laying on the ground. A one game suspension might be a bit much, he didn't leap on him like a cougar, but he clearly hit him in the head. Barbosa is down, he's not trying to steady himself, and it doesn't look "incidental" to me. It's only the shot after they are on the ground that really makes me say he should get a fine.

At least that's how I see it. If you see it different, that's cool, it does happen awful fast.

they can't prove that he was trying to do that.. just like we can't prove that bowen is sticking his foot under other players landing space time after time..

I thought the first time I saw it during the game live, I thought Barbosa was trying to get back on Ginobili, I was surprise not to see a foul called on Barb.

But now... it looks like he was being dragged down he reached across with his left arm, which looked like it was to knock Ginobili down, but now... after a few looks, he seems to have reached around because he was to fall that direction and was to use his left hand to absorb the fall....

I didn't think too much of it, I don't think it deserves a suspension at all, maybe a tech, and that is probably going a little far.

On the other hand, the end of the game:

I would love to know the reaction of the fans from this.
1) Nash clearly flopped, is that right?
2) What Bell did to Ginobili is pretty much the same as what Horry did to Nash last year. Does Bell deserve a 2-game? Do you see any Spurs players clearing the bench?
