No. They did a great job catering to both fans and people who didn't follow Rebels and Clone Wars animation. The only character you might wonder about is Ezra but you can quickly Google that. In short, he was a part of the group that helped build the Rebellion, was getting trained as a Jedi and then in order to stop Thrawn sacrificed himself to jettison Thrawn across the galaxy in Hyperspace without a way for either to ever travel their way back.
Didn’t do a good job of catering to this fan. I was not only bored to tears, but having no clue about Ezra/Thrawn backstory, felt like I was totally in the dark and couldn’t care less because of it. There were no stakes to me because I had no connection to people they were alluding to.

The first two episodes were definitely to establish the characters and pacing was a bit slow but I expect it to pick up. The show will likely focus on Ahsoka/Thrawn and the rest of the characters were more or less fan service to the animation crowd. Knowing those characters like I do, I thought they did a good job of not needing any real connection to those characters. That's a tough line to navigate for sure. This to me just feels like a fresh course for the live action shows. The fan response has been overwhelmingly positive.

My fear is they take the entire first season to even get to Thrawn/Ezra. And I don’t doubt the big fan response is genuine and robust, but for this guy, the pacing, tone, look and storytelling just didn’t hold me.

Also, the end of episode 1 had the schmuckbaitiest ending I’d seen in a while, which always bugs me. And the show felt like a return to green screen Star Wars which has always fallen flat for me, but especially after Andor.

I understand that Andor’s aesthetic and Filoni’s are completely different. Just realizing Filoni’s might not be in my personal wheelhouse.

That's fair but when this was first announced I wondered if this was a massive setup for a version of Timothy Zahn's stories. Thrawn and even Ezra might be a bit of a McGuffin if they wait until the final episode. Although I think I know where they are going with Ezra and fans are not going to like it.

I don't know. I like slow developing stories. It gives you something to look forward to in upcoming episodes. Dark Winds are doing a great job of that this season. You have a bad guy and so many episodes in, you are starting to learn his motivation. To me, I don't need to know Thrown/Ezra story yet. That the main characters are involved with Ezra, makes me feel there's something (foreshadowing) that I will learn upcoming. I like the four women in the story, and the man that is a bad guy, I like him and you don't want to know all his weapons right away. That could make him a one trick pony. I like that we don't know his full capabilities yet. You can sense he's a bad ass.

I just read that Thrawn will be crossing projects. So, I am tempering my expectations that Thrawn will be a main theme of this show like I originally thought. Filoni is not going to put all his eggs in the Ahsoka basket for this character. Sounds like he is saving the best for his movie. Also, sounds like he is definitly adapting parts of Zahn's books starting with his movie. My guess is this will all be about the introduction of the character and setting the stage for his return and saving the Zahn events for his movies.

My big question is why the writer hates the poor cat-thing? Bad enough it didn't starve when the owner was light sabered, but then she didn't feed it when she got back :D
I didn’t like that it sounded like a cat.

My biggest gripe in all stars wars stuff is when they don’t attempt to world create. Don’t give me normal trees or sounds like an existing animal. They aren’t on earth and that wasn’t a cat.

Sometimes I agree. Some of the coolest things in sci-fi is when it relates to something your familiar with. Many times they are trying to create strings to show we possibly came from that place or people.

If it’s purposeful, fine. But otherwise just seems lazy.

I stopped watching halfway through episode 2 and was able to pick up immediately where the show was watching episode 5.

That’s not good. This show bores me.

Last couple episodes got my interest piqued again.
