The Thrawn trilogy happened 5 years after RotJ, and Ahsoka is older than Luke. Even if you take the time frame this is supposedly happening in DSW Luke is still in his prime.

Oh, and there is such a thing as recasting.

This isn’t about white frightists (whatever that is), this is about Hollywood being totally bereft of talent and creativity.
They are not going to recast Luke after Mando for deaging for an entire series. Too expensive. Plus as a good as the Zahn books are they are not canon. I am curious to see how much they incorporate from his stories or if they merge his story into canon.

Keep in mind they approached Zahn about what they are doing and he could have said no. They also made him part of the process and invited him to help. The fact they did this at all seems to refute your narrative as they are inviting one of the most talented authors in the verse to participate. That’s more than a courtesy.

yeah… because recasting legend characters works so well in Star Wars. Just look how big of a smash SOLO was.

Oh wait… SOLO was such a bomb that Disney decided to scrap all of their movie slate.

Also, they’re going to recast Luke… even though they’ve already established weird CGI Luke in this universe?

Another great call.

Or maybe you just want weird de-aged Luke to be the star of the entire series. That wouldn’t look terrible AND be cost prohibitive.

Nah… this is about you complaining, AGAIN, that a female character (who’s is WILDLY POPULAR FOR OVER A DECADE) has replaced your 73 year old white knight in a story that’s not even cannon.

I know Star Wars fans are all about how things happen and by whom. I read all the Walking Dead comics. People got mad they didn't follow the comics and checked out of the TV Series. I enjoyed the series because it was different. What's the point if you follow the books, etc., verbatim? I like differences, twists, etc over the originals.

Purists really bug me. It’s the equivalent of your parents still playing old music because they don’t like the new stuff while the rest of the world moves on.

I would rather have new Star Wars than no more Star Wars ever. Sure I want them to maintain as much continuity as they can and maintain the spirit. However, the franchise has to move on with the times as well. They can’t get so stuck in the past they and be afraid of what came before it.

I personally liked deaged Luke but only in small doses. The tech is still too expensive and not perfected just yet.

Same. That tech is okay for really small dosages, but it’s not main character ready yet.

And I bet Luke does show up in some way in this end run to this universe. But the creators of this corner of the universe always said they’re telling a non-Skywalker story. I’m more than fine with that.

I just want them to be better. This season of Mando blew big chunks.

Solo had many more issues than the recasting. It was incompetence all round by KK and her team. It could have been fine with a higher quality "creative" team.

No way. The movie definitely had its problems, but no one is going to accept Solo or Luke or Leia, being played by any actor playing ages we’ve already seen those guys play, other than the guys in the OT.

You could make the greatest Indiana Jones movie in the world but if it was recast with anyone other than Harrison Ford, it wouldn’t work.

Those movies were and are still just too big of phenomenas to recast the icons that made it so.

The main problem with Solo was everyone was asking.....why? Did we really need to see a Solo movie with another actor? It's one thing to deage. It's another thing to recast a main character with a gap in time that isn't very believable. Nobody was buying the gap between Harrison Ford in ANH and Solo with that recast. They should have set that movie even further back to make the difference between the characters more believable. That's why people didn't mind Obi being played by Ewen McGreggor.

Having said that I don't hate Solo as much as others do. In fact, being removed from it and TLJ? I like it more now than I did before.

Bingo. There was enough time in the story between how old Obi was when we met him and who he could have been 30-40 years earlier.

Han was only probably late 20’s when we met him. So if they wanted to get a teenage version of him, fine. We don’t know what Ford/Han looked like then.

We also probably wouldn’t give a crap about teenage Han either so that movie’s never getting made.

I always wondered why they didn’t just go with Anthony Ingruber, who had an uncanny resemblance to Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline.

I thought Solo was one of the better Star Wars films that have come out in recent years. I thought the casting was good. I would have enjoyed a 2nd film.

I didn’t think the guy they cast was all that bad. It’s just impossible to match Ford’s charisma when he was at his peak in that role.

My bigger problem with the movie was that I was so bored, it put me to sleep. The movie just felt so… safe.

Would have killed to see Lord and Miller’s version of this movie.

This is along the lines of what I meant by KK and her team not doing it right. The actor they got to play Han is a fine actor but he didn't fit the part to match up with Ford in ANH. He was also too old at 29 when it came out. They needed to find a kid in his late teens that had more charisma.

I still think it was basically Mission Impossible for an icon like Solo.

it’s so hard to replace an icon… especially a “younger version” of an icon when we met the original icon at a pretty young age.

The only successful one I can think of was River Phoenix at the beginning of Last Crusade. I just watched that and he’s fantastic as young Indy. That said… he also had Spielberg at the peak of his powers crafting an amazing set piece and it was only for ten minutes.

Actually, there’s one other actor I can think of nailing the “young version” of an absolute icon… Mads Mikkelsen in NBC’s Hannibal. He killed that role. Pun intended. But again, we’re talking one of the best actors of his generation and a sizable age gap between the OG and New interpretation of Lecter.

Filloni is the man. He just has a similar voice as Lucas. He did a great job threading the needle pleasing the fans of animation and casuals IMO.

This just feels fresh and yet like old Star Wars at the same time. Can’t wait for next week.

93% Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 93% from fans.

Are non Clone War/Rebels watchers going to be totally lost here? I know She was Anakin’s apprentice but that’s about it.

I don't pay any attention to previous books, etc. I just watch the shows and see if they stand on their own. So far so good for me. The cliff hanger at the end of episode one made me want to watch episode two. After episode two, I am ready to see more.

No. They did a great job catering to both fans and people who didn't follow Rebels and Clone Wars animation. The only character you might wonder about is Ezra but you can quickly Google that. In short, he was a part of the group that helped build the Rebellion, was getting trained as a Jedi and then in order to stop Thrawn sacrificed himself to jettison Thrawn across the galaxy in Hyperspace without a way for either to ever travel their way back.
