I just watched it. The satire on the military was pretty interesting. I loved the tongue-in-cheek humor. I had always thought this was just a silly bug-killing action movie, so I was pleasantly surprised at all the imperialistic undertones. I was surprised to see Amy Smart in there near the end. I’m not sure yet if I’ll bother to see the sequel.

The book was more political than the movie.

I was very disappointed in the movie due to the simple fact that in the book the Marines had suits with nukes on their shoulders and flame throwers in their hands. And they could also jump like a mile in the suits and had 2,000 PSI crushing power with their hands. And there was only around a 1,000 space marines total. But they kicked ass.

I had the same thoughts about the movie.

I hated this movie after Rico turned down the hot Red head repeatidly. So unrealistic for a man to turn his nose to guaranteed sex with a hottie.

Definately not the book but it wa massive violence and I liked it...

There was an animated series several years back that followed the book much better; about 27 episodes. You can rent them on netflix. Just search for Roughnecks and you should see them.

I didn't even know they made a sequal. I did like the original though. I saw it at the Harkins on Mill Ave at the midnight showing. Everyone in the theater kept yelling DOOGIE!!! every time Neil Patrick Harris came on the screen. It was alot of fun.

He banged her in the end, so it's all good.

(I mean, he banged her at the end of the story, not the end of, well, you know)

Yeah, I was reading about that on Wiki.

Paul Verhoeven never finished reading the novel, claiming he read through the first few chapters and became both bored and depressed. This explains both the vast divergence between the book and film, and the volume of the uproar among Heinlein's fans when the movie was released.

Excellent. I'll watch it for sure then. :D

Starship Troopers 2 is worth watching because it has Kelly Carlson walking about nude in it.
