so let me see if i understand this:

kerr says 'we're going to follow the san antonio blueprint'

then he gives away our defense and our draft picks.

maybe he meant he planned to sign ex-spur role players? or maybe the feds need to expand their inquiry to GM's.

steve kerr's decisions so far:

suns trade:
2007 pick (save $4M. $1M for 2 yrs guaranteed when already over lux tax)
2008 pick (save $3M)
2010 pick (save $2-4M)
Kurt Thomas (save $16M)
James Jones (save $12M. $3M for 2 yrs when already over lux tax)

suns receive:
$3M

suns sign:
grant hill ($1M after the league pays for the rest)
sean marks ($.5M)
alando tucker ($1M)
dj strawberry? ($.5M)

after adding up all the cost avoidance numbers and money in the pocket, and subtracting out the dollars spent, Steve Kerr has saved $37M for Sarver in a month! yay!!!

what sucks is that even in trying to cut costs he sucks. if he could have negotiated someone taking banks (over even managed to put some type of protection on the future picks), that'd be a heck of a cost-cutting move, but even in being the hatchet man, he has failed to deliver. how unfortunate.

lets hope next year its not Shawn Marion + the ATL pick for more 'flexibility'

Last offseason was really painful to watch. It was obvious Mike D had no idea how to fullfill the role of a GM. This season, I had high hopes for Steve Kerr. I had read his articles and he seemed pretty clear about what was needed to get the suns over the hump. Interior defense and rebounding. I was sure he was going to focus on those areas this year.

It turns out, he is just there to play the role of Bob Sarvers bitch. Pick after pick sold or given away, our best interior defender given to the Sonics, a very decent 8th man given away...

After the Amare/Diaw suspensions I pledged not to watch another NBA playoff game (suns games included) and surprisingly I was able to follow through. After the way this offseason has gone so far and after the whole ref scandal I'm wondering if it may be worthwhile to continue that pledge into this ensuing season.

The irony is that if Sarver weren't spending money on Kerr as GM, the Suns could afford another player....

I don't think Kerr deserves any blame for the moves (and I think they're somewhat understandable to be honest, but I know not to try to defend Sarver on this board right now). Sarver has a business model that almost certainly mandates that payroll be below a certain limit, and it's up to Kerr to get it there. I'm sure he could have given away Bell or Barbosa and saved those 1st round picks (and almost certainly picked up one or two), but that does far more damage to the Suns' chances than giving up a 15 minute a night player and two future picks that will probably be in the mid 20's at best. If the directive is to cut payroll back to $70 million or so, Kerr has to do it, and he said as much (keeping the core together, making painful choices, etc...).

I just wish, if we were going to give away so many picks anyway, that we could at least have dumped Banks with those picks instead of KT.

Rumor was that it would have taken both the #24 and #29 to get anyone to take Banks.

Right now we don't know if he can become a Daniel Gibson type guy off the bench. If he can, his market value could increase dramatically. He's too much of a one on one guy to be an ideal fit for the Suns, but his value could increase dramatically if his shooting has actually improved. With luck, the Suns might get something for him at some point.

We really need a crossed fingers icon.
