That article is moronic. How has Steve Kerr been vindicated? By designing a team last year that missed out on the playoffs for the first time in years and this year building one that will go no further than the 2nd round, thats being vindicated? Oh yah, I can see how in that light the Shaq and Kurt Thomas deals were brilliant moves! The guy helped dismantle the most successful Suns team over a 4 year span ever and one of the most fun teams in NBA history, sounds like a real winner.

Not sure how I missed this gem but here we go. Steve Kerr has made his mistakes (like every GM in the NBA), but we are one of the top eight teams in the NBA and are after decades of putzing around with "entertaining" basketball we have finally implemented a system and organizational blueprint that is conducive to winning NBA Championships. Steve Kerr was behind that.

So far in his three years here while being asked to slash payroll every summer has built up depth, made defense important, and gotten the face of the franchise to buy into the plan. Sure Porter was a mistake (one he quickly realized and got out of which is commendable considering 75% of NBA GM's ride their mistakes for months if not years) and the KT deal was a rookie blunder (although there wasn't much he could do when his coach refused to play draft picks and his boss said to lose the salary) but he's recovered quite well.

Also the notion that we were better suited to win an NBA Title in the D'Antoni/BC Era than now is utterly ridiculous. We are just as much of a long shot now as we were back then, except right now we aren't blessed with easily the most talent in NBA to choke it away with. Kerr's doing just fine.

I'm not sure how anyone could call that era successful. Having the most talent in the NBA and winning squat is a disaster of an era. I guess as long as it was "fun" for novice fans we're all good.

5 games away from the Lakers. I have to say Kerr did a nice job drafting Lopez and Kerr. I thought he was dumb getting Lopez. I'm split on it.

Marion for Shaq was good...

Thomas was horrible but initiated by Sarver I'd guess... and in the end we only gave up 2 late first round picks now. Blame Sarver , he could have bought us 2 picks like that simply if we wanted to.

Boris Diaw trade was very good actually, got rid off his contract for a shorter one and got 2 quality players.

His drafting has been pretty good, I think he is getting better. I'd like to keep him around what is the alternative anyway unless they hired me!

Shaq to Cleveland was "meh" but the truth is that the market for Shaq was extremely limited. First of all his big contract and then his attitude. Of course in hindsight it would have been better to keep him until the deadline and move him as the biggest expiring contract.. Look how much New York paid for TMac.. Too bad that wasn't possible with Sarver either.

Kerr hasn't really done a bad move so far when you think about it. The worst one is the Googs trade if anything because that New York pick will end up in the first half of the lottery and go to Utah. That trade was made by Bryan Colangelo however who has ran the Toronto Raptors in the ground if they lose Bosh for nothing.

Which teams had the most talent? Most years the Suns exceeded preseason predictions because they weren't thought of as that talented.

Not that I disagree with your take on Kerr who seems to be doing as well as can be expected given his restrictions and does appear to have a clear vision on how to build a team(hopefully that will include no more trading draft picks).

I'm not going to forget the draft picks Kerr traded away and certainly I will not give Kerr much credit until the future status of Stoudemire is resolved... either extended or a fair sign and trade.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out when we were ever the most talented team in the NBA. Maybe one year with Barkley and crew but certainly not during the SSOL era.

I think the Thomas deal was an error of huge proportions but I understand pretty much everything else that's occurred during Kerr's run. I have no problem with an extension. Besides, how are you going to improve on Kerr if Sarver really has as much input/control as people suggest. At least Sarver likes and respects Kerr.

I am impressed with what's been done this year, but I also believe the Suns are improving on lowered expectations. I still think Sarver/Kerr have been shortsighted in several situations, and the idea that the SSOL squad wasn't the contender many thought they were isn't actually a comment on the team now.

Personally, I think 2011 offseason will be fairly defining for the current regime. It has been reported that the Suns are one of the teams specifically foregoing this offseason's FA bonanza for next offseason. But it's also widely suspected that some teams have been using 2010 as an excuse to clear cap space with no real intention of landing one of the big FAs. If Sarver sits on his hands, his rep (deserving or no) is going to get a lot of play. But there's also another season between now and then for players like Dragic and Lopez to continue to develop.

a) that team was FINISHED.

b) how the hell were they the most successful Suns team over a 4 year span ever? I'm pretty sure the 1992-6 teams were the most successful Suns team ever... one that even made the Finals. Something DA's teams never even came close to doing... despite having the best record in the league twice.

Sorry, but the DA years were one huge ****-tease that ceased being fun to watch by year 4.

I've done my far share of Kerr bashing but he's done a solid job of rebuilding on the run. Now the big question will be can he convince Amare to come back. That to me will be his graduation day.

Not sure that doesn't remain to be seen. What is this team like without Nash. Who takes his place?

What's Cleveland without LeBron, LA without Kobe and Miami without Wade?

Not exactly a fair argument.

2007. Three All Stars (Marion, Nash, Amare), reigning back-to-back MVP playing the best season of his career (Nash), 1st Team All-Defensive Player (Raja), reigning NBA Most Improved Player (Diaw), and a guy who was about to win NBA Sixth Man of the Year (Barbs). Plus a solid veteran in Kurt Thomas off the bench.

That team was loaded, but of course choked under pressure whether it was blowing Game One at home against SAS or losing their composure when a fat, over-the-hill Robert Horry took a cheapshot. Not to mention the laughable defense they always seemed to play down the stretch. All of which fall on D'Antoni who people seem to miss so much for whatever reason.

Smoke and Mirrors. Those accolades were the result of a system and not really a measure of talent. We were a very good team that could have won it all with a fair amount of luck.

They didn't play laughable defense; they didn't PLAY defense. If we were so great how come so many experts picked the Spurs going into that series? It was because we matched up poorly with the Spurs on paper and on the court. They had Duncan and we didn't. That does not equate to choking. It wasn't UA playing Santa Clara or Seattle playing Denver. If we had played them every other day for a year we would have finished near .500.

How would you like to be Steve Kerr? A boss who dictates his every move based on money, so in essence the blunders Kerr gets credit for are not on him. On top of that he is constantly criticized, see some of the posters on this board, for draft blunders (Robin Lopez, Goran Dragic, Earl Clark prior to this season) and for not getting much in return for Shaq or for not getting something for Amare.

The guy stuck to his guns (probably had to convince Sarver to keep Amare in the fold) and lo and behold we are most likely going to finish in the Top 4 in the WC. This season was already a victory as people we laughing that we would be giving John Wall to OKC well it looks like Kerr gets the last laugh as OKC will probably be picking after #24. You know the guy is putting in work hours, he looks beat to s*** during interviews. To bad we can't choose to non re-new Sarver's contract as an owner.

This post is just laughable, the Suns won more games under D'Antoni and went further in the playoffs, but somehow the Suns are better now because Lou Amundson gets time? Thats amazingly silly.

The suns are better now because we are playing defense and developing young talent, somthing D.A never thought to do. Instead we ended up with 5 very good player who never won a championship, and wasted young talent rotting on the bench. I like the fact that Gentry is playing young talent now, such as RoLo and Dragic.
