Can we get back to discussing trading Nash? :)

I would suspect(hope) that a decision is made before the June draft.
Also,i hope that decision is made by the Suns for the Suns,in the best interest of a seemingly directionless franchise......not by Nash and what he wants for himself over the next few years.

Why? I think it would be a huge mistake to trade any one of the Suns. Now, if you want to talk about trading every single player on the team, sign me up. Honestly, I'd trade every single player/contract that brought back something of value (even if it was just a far into the future 1st or even 2nd rounder). I'd keep anyone without value and fill out the roster with the best the NBDL has to offer for the next few years.

As I've made clear many times, I really like Gortat and Dudley. But, Dudley is a great complementary player and it's going to be awhile before we have the kind of team that can truly benefit from that type of player. Even though Gortat is already one of my favorite all time "Suns", I'd move him too. I love his attitude and I love his approach to the game. Barring injury and despite comments to the contrary, I think one of the most sure things I've ever seen in this game is that Marcin WILL continue to improve (noticeably). Unfortunately, as bad as we're likely to be, he has more value elsewhere.

Yeah there was three guys i wanted to try to keep after an overhaul(Gortat,Duds and Dragic)....and now obviously there's only two. I'm in favor of keeping Frye too,as long as they realize he's not the answer at PF.

It'll likely take at least 2 or 3 years to overhaul this roster. A team full of role players and aging vets.....you've got to drain the swimming pool before you fix it. Or you could just keep pouring more and more chlorine into it on the weekends and hope for the best. :)

As long as Sarver doesn't keep pissing in the pool, we could maybe see daylight in 2 or 3 years. I figure more like 4 or 5. Not trading Nash the day Amare walked was a decision that will bite us for years.

I could take it back to the day that D'Antoni walked:D....but yeah, thats a good point.

I know you could and I know you would. However, I think there were legit arguments for both keeping him AND moving him up until the day we lost Amare. Once we lost Stat though, every reason for keeping Nash (IMO) seemed to come from, if not fantasy land, at least the land of desperation.

I am with you. When I sit back and think about it, what piece do we have that could net an all-star in return to change our fortunes? I don't see it.

So, I ask again, why keep Nash? This team isn't going to win a title with him. Why not spend the next few seasons drafting and trading to change the franchise from the ground up with a dedication to defense?

Sure we could try and "retool" again but I just don't see us winning a title even if we did unless we got really lucky with some team looking to shed a great player for salary reasons. It could happen but usually it's the Suns with the desperation on those types of deals.

Get something for him versus let him walk.

Mojorizen7, was there ever a time when you were happy with Nash and/or D'Antoni?
I really can't remember.

I do think Nash should have been traded before the past trade deadline when it was clear the Suns were going nowhere.

Oh yes. Right up until the end of the 07 season. I was fully on board w/trying to run and shoot other teams right out of the building LOL. The Suns were nearly indefensable at times under DA....it was alot of fun...until playoff time(winning time) and good head coaches caught on quickly as to how to beat us.
I bought into trying to win a title DA's way until i'd seen enough to prove otherwise.

People will continue to throw out a half-dozen "what if's" for reasons we didn't get it done in the Nash era but i'm not buying them.

It can't be done IMO(it never did and its not looking good for any of the other teams who closely adhere themselves to an offensive philosophy)....and despite the entertainment value of DA/Nashball,and the high character and will to win of a player like Steve Nash i put whats best for the TEAM first....and one has to realize that when something's not working ....you've got to change it up and move on.

I was on-board with the Suns having a chance to win it all through the 9-10 season when the Suns made it to the WCFs. Gentry did a commendable job with the Suns until Sarver decided to blow up the Suns with the departure of Amare. I do agree the Suns need to refocus on getting younger and building a better defense.

In regard to Nash and D'Antoni, it appears it was a marriage made in heaven. DA needed Nash to run his system and Nash benefited by having a free rein as a playmaker. Unfortunately the Suns have very few chips (thanks to Sarver not investing money in a basketball smart GM) to rebuild the team.

Certainly Nash is not the MVP type player he was years ago and he should have been traded before the past trading deadline when it was obvious the Suns were going nowhere fast. Now, it appears whether the Suns keep Nash or trade Nash it likely won't make much difference as his value has diminished. As JC once said, it is better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late.

if Nash goes, it'd be for almost free. maybe NYK would consider Billups for Nash swap.

Isn't there a 90 year old point guard available??? I see no reason to continue robbing from the Geriatric ward.
