KWAME BROWN... He is deffinately big enough to play center against everyone but YAO and SHAQ... Trade the Chicago pick for him.

Why not wait until the Clippers match on Richardson, and then use the cap space to trade the Chicago pick and Eisley for Duncan?

HUH?????????????

ASFN presents Real Message Board Genius. Today we solute you Mr. Preposterous Trade Suggester. You call us up with a totally straight face and actually suggest trading the eleventh and twelfth man on the roster for a six time all star. With you managing the team you would throw caution to the wind and concoct a 5 team 23 player deal including the car valet at the stadium. So crack open an Ice Cold Bud Light Mr. Preposterous Trade Suggester.

So who would that be a proposterous trade for? I didnt say Kevin Garnett or Tim Duncan, we are talking about Kwame Brown for what would probably be a top 5 pick, hell throw in some other pieces to make it work. I know last year Washington was almost willing to give him up for alot less than that..

Yes Brown is definitely not in play at this point.

I think you are right George, unless someone becomes available we are left with filling in some depth with a rookie FA or some journeyman from europe to sit on the bench all season while Voskul, Lampe, and Stoudemire serve most of the time at center.

how many years?

The last legitimate center the Suns had was Mark West - banger, boarder, defender, offensive put-backer (about his only shot!). This was a decade ago.
Horacio Llamas, anybody? Scott Williams was adequet as a stopgap - but a stopgap for WHAT?
Why can't we get a servicable, young center?

What about Oliver Miller, Andrew Lang, even Big Jake had his moments. It seams to me everyone wants a team of all-stars at every possition. Come on we don't need to add another big contact or major player. Heck right now I would take Big Jake back. I am sure there will be someone coming out of the summer league for this team to play some back-up minutes.

Because they are either extremely expensive or terribly inexperienced (ie Lampe).

How expensive? Foyle and Etan Thomas got full MLE long term deals and they are career backups. Mark Blount got a full MLE and he is a 30 year old who has started for less than one season. Okur got a $50 million deal and he did not even play in finals for the Pistons (and had stats similar to those Jake).

Boozer has had two years in the league and gets a $68 million dollar deal. K-Mart already has one offer of $85 million. These guys wouldn't even solve the Suns problem at center and they are way out of range.

Realistically, EVERY team in the NBA is looking for a servicable, young center and some are willing to grossly overpay for them. Unfortunately, the rest are just not good enough to be any help.

If that's what the sonics offered then no wonder they didnt get him. Of course thats not all they offered though. Rad was part of the deal as was brent berry. Kwame Brown has a lot of trade value right now. You dont just give up on a young pf like kwame in a couple of years. He was an absolute beast in a few games.

I've got the best idea.

Trade Eisley for Calvin Booth. Booth saves us .5 million this season and 1 million the next year, and when hes in his last year of his contract, we'll just cut him.
Booth is a good shot blocker, and runs the court ok. hes kinda expensive, but not as expensive as eisley, so we save in the long run.

that's a nice idea, but what are you going to throw in along with Howard Eiseley?

I still think that if Q's deal is not matched up, the Suns have a deal already in place involving Shawn Marion.

It may not be the best idea, becuase I agree that Marion will flourish with Nash at point, but I think it has a high likely hood of happening.

Depth has always been a concern for the suns, but they almsot always prefer to get a starting rotation set instead.

FYI, I don't like the Mutombo idea. He is the anti sun at this point......

That may be, but in general it is incorrect to say that you need a quick center in order to be a running team. Not everyone runs the floor on a fast break anyway, and the most logical person to stay back is the one who grabs the defensive rebound.

The Lakers of the late 80s were a high-octane, running team, in spite of having a creaky old center whose best years were far behind him. It wasn't uncommon at all to see Abdul-Jabbar stay back in the defensive half of the court while the Lakers ran their offense, if it looked like they had any sort of break at all. It was only once they were clearly in a half-court set that Abdul-Jabbar would trudge up court.

It worked just fine for them.

For whom?

I haven't done an inventory of the Western Conference centers, but I'm not convinced the Suns can get a starting quality center for Marion. (I already posted my review of the Eastern Conference). I am "underwhelmed" by who is out there.

I love Marion, but teams hate trading quality big for quality small. If the Suns were willing to settle for mediocrity, they could have done that through free agency.

Good point, the only response I have is that Kareem was an offense threat and one of the best offensive centers of all time. The same could not be said for Mutombo at any point in his career. The Lakers could afford an old creaky center, they were a championship contending team and Kareem still had value in the offensive half court set.

I am not real excited about an old guy like Divac or Mutombo. The veteran leadership would be nice (as it was a huge plus with McDyess last year IMO) but I think the Suns have a veteran in Nash. I would rather "make due" with a younger Llamas/Santiago type player for depth and wait untill something better comes along. Anybody we get at this point will not play big minutes anyway, why spend a lot on him?

George,

The only person that pops out of my head is Damn right now. Not my favorite idea, but it is a possibility. One thing I posted on another site was:

One idea I thought of actually is a deal with Portland.

S&T with Darius Miles (to a deal very similar to Q's) and Dale Davis for Marion.

Since Miles would be a BYC player. only about 3 million would count for cap purposed. On top of Davis' 9 million, that is a pretty close swap.

The Blazers are supposedly looking for a place to move Davis to, since he is unhappy there. He would add some much needed toughness, and wouldnt have a problem getting minutes here. Not to mention he is in the last year of his deal, and could most likely be had for around the MLE next season.

The Blazers are high on Miles right now, but they can't get to excited over his few good months. Marion gives them a solid contributer, with a great reputation. Allen is one of the few people who may swallow his deal.

Not to mention Q and Miles want to play together again. (They visited Denver together earlier) Maybe this is how the Suns got Q to sign

It is a crap shoot. However, Miles is suited to come off the bench at this point in his career. Davis would give a big body to play center with. If he doesn't work out, we let him walk.

Anyways, we most likely wind up slightly overpaying Miles. There is still no consensus on what kind of a player he will be. One thing we do know, he will add some excitement and energy off the bench.

Just a thought, I still can't figure out if I like it, especially since Marion's game should pick up this year.

When Q and Miles were in LA they came off the bench together and enjoyed it, created instant offense. This idea has some merit and may be the reason that they signed Richardson. The Jailblazers have been trying to clean up their image and Marion would be a perfect fit.

Portland has a boat load of FA next year, Stoudamire, Davis, Ratliff, SAR, Stepania and Rach Randolph is a RFA, they may want to add a long term contract to add stability just in case exeryone else wants to bolt. I do see them as a trading partner now that we are in different divisions.

Portland would have to take Eisley as well.

Dale Davis makes 9M$. If Miles made 6M.5$ in his first year that is 15M$. Marion alone makes only 11M$. Marion plus Eisley would make 17.6M$.

Dale Davis
Darius Miles
+Dickau or Outlaw or Woods or Stepania for Marion and Eisley should work under the cap.

I would prefer to get Ratliff though and throw in some picks and Vujanic. ;)

I am a Miles fan and if we get Q I would love to have Miles as well. He can still be a great player and defensively he is better than Marion. He could easily be better than Marion in time.

This is where I would trade the Chicago pick, with Sabonis' connection to Martynas trading this pick would put Portland closer to getting him.

SlinSlin, wouldn't Miles be a BYC player though. I thought it was for players coming off of their rookie deals, or recieving a 150% raise.

If Miles is BYC, then Miles counts for 3.25 in a trade. Add that to 9million and it gets pretty close to Marion's deal. (Working on the Blazers end then, the Suns side is where I am not sure)

I don;t know how much cap space the Suns will have after all is said and done though. They would still need to a be a couple million under after Q and Nash in order to make it work.

I would prefer Ratliff too, but I really don't see a way we can pry him from Portland. The Blazers know how much he helped their team last year, and also realize his deal coming off the books would be a huge bonus if they cannot retain him.

I figure Davis+Miles is the next best option.

The Blazers are rebuilding, its the first time in 15 years they missed the playoffs. I would imagine that management sees this as an opportunity to retool for the long run. They will probably try to build something around Anderson and Randolph.

I think if we throw Vujanic (relplacement for Stoudamire) while Telfair develops, Marion (clean reputation), Voskuhl (a filler for Theo) and the Chicago pick next year (a chance at drafting Martynas) we could convince then to give up Ratliff and Miles. The Chicago pick may not get them Martynas but it will make it a lot easier to trade up. I could then see them hiring Sabonis as a coach.
