I liked it well enough. I still can't get past Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, though.

Overall, I was intrigued.

I loved it...Aaron Sorkin is just such a great writer and knows how to create intriguing characters.

I love the three main actors, Peet, Perry and Whitford...I think it will be a fun show.

I get your problem with Perry...but I've gotten past that for some reason...seeing him in a few other projects has helped. I've always been a huge Matthew Perry fan.

I really liked the first episode, and I would say that it must hit pretty close to home with the SNL ties. I am almost sure that I have seen that sketch on SNL before where a bad impression of George W bumbles about nothing.

Good first episode - gave viewers a taste and set the stage.

Sorkin is just amazing. He's the best TV dialogue writer of this generation - like a really good novelist - he can make two people talking about paint drying seem like the most important discussion in the world.

ok, so i'm just now watching the first episode (i was on the phone when i put it in). a single camera show with a laugh track? frustrating, to say the least.

What's frustrating? Sports Night?

Okay, first of all, if you watch from start to finish, you will absolutely LOVE this show.

Secondly, the laugh track goes away eventually...second season I believe.

Just wait...a few episodes and it really starts rocking. Wait for the one where Danny has to apologize...you'll cry.

i guess. i actually think (nay, know), after watching 10 minutes instead of the 5 from before, that it's not single camera. but that's worse.

i don't know, really. i get thrown when things don't go the way i think they will. i adjust after a little bit, but at first i don't like it. i guess i feel that about this show. it's a little lighter and brighter than i expected, but i'm sure i'll get past that.

Give Sports Night some time its great. As for Studio 60 it is the perfect combination of Sport Night and the West Wing. It has the class of the West Wing with the premise and witty humor of Sports Night. I officially have found my new favorite television show.

Agreed on the comparision...I just said that to my wife last night too.

Not my favorite show...Lost, BSG and The Office are still tops, but I LOVE seeing Sorkin back doing something.

OK, I missed the premiere but just watched episode 2. Pretty good show. I was a huge fan of SNL in the 90s and have nearly every episode on VHS. I'll keep watching this show for a bit and see where it goes.

Even though I had seen it before and promos I loved the scene where Matthew Perry's character had just gone off on the rant on professionalism in the workplace only to have his ex-girlfriend burst into the room and yell at him.

I like the show, but I'm not hooked like I was after an episode or two of the West Wing.

Haha, the show must be extremely popular with the religious right. :)

That was a good scene...

I just love how Sorkin wraps things up, or uses things from earlier in the show to finish off an episode.

The ticking clock...you forget all about it when the show starts, it's awesome, the number they sing, he smiles...then turns back and sees the clock already ticking for next week.

Those are the little touches that other shows fail to do, and Sorkin does so well.

I'm a little confused. Didn't Tina Fey leave SNL to do a show similar to this?

Yep that is "30 Rock", premiering Oct 11, also on NBC. It is a 30 min sitcom.

Monday ratings: Heroes impresses, Studio 60 depresses
Posted Sep 26th 2006 1:45PM by Bob Sassone
Filed under: Industry, Programming

This ratings business can be confusing as hell. I always get bogged down in the numbers, and I've been looking at them for years. But one thing's for sure: NBC's Heroes got off to a great start on Monday night, improving over numbers for the same time slot last year. The Futon Critic says at the link above (I think) that NBC won the night), though TV Week says that CBS did. Huh? I think Futon Critic is right: NBC won the night, but CBS won in the important 18-49 demo.

Meanwhile, Studio 60. [Heavy sigh] The second episode of THE FREAKIN' BEST NEW SHOW OF THE SEASON PEOPLE, JESUS! saw a 13% drop in households and 10% drop in adults (from it's premiere episode). But the numbers weren't terrible, and they helped NBC win the night (though most of that win is from Heroes and Deal Or No Deal). Before I panic I'll see how the network spins it and how the analysts decipher what it all means.

CBS' lineup did well too, coming in second. ABC was third, FOX fourth.

Update: NBC says that Studio 60 is doing better in the time slot than Medium did last year, and that it tied with CSI: Miami in key demos.

Another great episode. It wound up ending the same way he used to end the West Wing with the music montage. This show truly demonstrates how he has grown since Sports Night.
