Devils shooting has been horrible in the second half. Worst all season.

Regardless of how this game turns out, it has been the most lopsided officiated gamer I have witnessed... Whether it's phantom "lane violation" or random technical fouls that were NEVER explained, I just don't see how any objective observer can say this game has been officiated correctly...

I understand in College basketball refs are hired by the conference and therefore a game that is exclusively on the conference network, if they want to keep getting hired they need to make sure the PAC-12 Powerhouses win at home, but honestly, this was ridiculous...

Hurley is about to have an aneurism and I don't blame him... This is a embarrassment to the PAC-12 reputation..

Devils had them rattled with a minute to go in Tucson.

See how they handle our building.

Who's building?

But damn ASU impressed the hell out of me shooting that poorly but still having us on the ropes. If it wasn't for Tare Young you'd think Holder would be 1st team AA.

This was an entertaining game. I can't see how anyone can whine about the officiating. Trier was getting fouled on many drives, he could of gone to the line just as many times that Holder did. Btw, both teams committed 20 fouls and ASU shot 25 free throws compared to 23 for the UofA. The game in Tempe will be another tough one and who knows, it could mean the #1 seed for the Pac-12 Tournament.

Nah. Give asu its due: This team is really good. To come into McKale and play balls-to-the-wall like that and make UofA sweat takes talent and coaching. I’m not sure how well asu will do playing with no size for the rest of the season, but for the average fan, it’s at least a bit entertaining.

This one lived up to the hype. Both teams will end the season in the top 5. How cool will that be?

ASU acquitted themselves quite well. They are legit and will be a factor both in the PAC and in the tournament. I can see them still taking the conference out from under Arizona. They didn't come close to playing their "A" game and still very nearly stole this one.

UofA tends to do that to fast break teams; hence, holding asu 13 points under its average. Additionally, UofA had 15 TO, many of which unforced. Further, Trier was ice cold in the first half. Argument can be made that UofA played a B- game.

Rawle was pretty cocky before the game and was not good tonight. Neither was Trier in the first. The offense was actually a mess without PJC. I expected more from Barcello but he's not ready for prime time yet.

USC might be the biggest disappointment in the country so the PAC is a two horse race. I expect Arizona to win because they're slightly better defensively and not as reliant on the 3-ball but anything can happen.

Arizona definitely has a match up advantage with Ayton. There is no doubt on my mind that if UA doesn't have him, ASU wins going away tonight.

But the whole point being that based on personnel, everyone knew that UA was going to be a top team this year. But nobody expected ASU to be. So tonight's game was further proof that ASU is in the conversation for conference - and even national - relevancy.

You proved yourself a team to be reckoned with weeks ago. Tonight's result does not change that.

I will say, however, if I'm an ASU fan, and knowing that the stakes are higher for this season, here would be my concerns:

  • How successful can the team be playing small all season? Even lesser talented teams with elite with great bigs can eat ASU alive.
  • How often can the team get down by double digits and rely on frenetic scoring to get itself back into games?
  • How does ASU handle the pressure of having the bullseye on its back? It's easy to win games when you fly under the radar, but ask any Arizona fan, and you'll know that teams play you a little harder when you are the hunted.

Yes, those are all things ASU will have to deal with going forward. As for the small ball issue, it is not such a stumbling block these days as it once was. Michigan (for one example) has had some good tournament runs playing the exact same style in recent years. And ASU is not going to encounter too many teams that present any kind of similar matchup issue to what Ayton is.

I am glad ASU lost. This early in the season, they need something that stings a bit to help them learn. They will do that and improve going forward.

Ayton is an incredible talent. At his size, to have the skills, moves, hands and IQ he possesses... WOW!
ASU suffers from not having any legit size. It will hurt them thoroughly PAC-12 play. They will still contend and the UofA game in Tempe nightly likely turn out differently. But the lack of size will be a nagging issue for Hurley to somehow deal with and overcome.
