They're fine with losing, it seems. They're close but no one is calling each other out, which was done during the Finals run. This team is a mess. The last thing I want to hear as a fan is how much the players like each other and how losing is tough but they try to keep each other's spirits up. Be miserable, show me you care. If you don't care then I feel foolish for caring about you.

Unfortunately, the Suns are not a good team playing bad, but rather a poorly constructed team that doesn't play defense or offense with any degree of competency. Also, they don't show any signs of having a heart. They should hate losing.

The Suns last three losses to Indiana, Detroit and Denver has changed my perspective. It's hard to see any trade fixing the team.

It's sad because it didn't have to be this way. The Suns look like a band of mercenaries after the Durant trade. Actually they are except for Devin Booker.

Any trade now is only likely to slow the bleeding. Worse yet, as I see it, James Jones and Mat Ishbia not only destroyed the championship hopes of the team that went to the Finals, but for the foreseeable future as well.

Where do the Suns go from now?

If I were the Suns owner, I'd hire the best GM money can buy and listen to him. I don't trust the decisions coming out of the front office anymore.

If Nurkic could be traded, the Suns would likely have to attach an asset to make it happen or maybe take on a longer term contract.

It would be dumb to trade Nurkic for him. Allen might be too much also. Finney-Smith is a tweener and we need someone who can actually bang inside for rebounds and protect the rim.
But it fits in perfectly with J. Jones' roster building. His perfect NBA team is quite literally 12 James Jones clones plus (grudgingly) one center and (maybe) a PG.

Although I'm not overly familiar with Finney-Smith, the thought occurred to me the Suns might be trying to find another Jae Crowder type player to play power forward. This would help the Suns short-term.

Then, depending on whom the Suns trade, they could trade or sign a free agent center if they needed one to replace Nurkic.

As an example, Frank Kaminsky is still out there.

Also, I could see the Suns trading both Nurkic and Allen in separate trades to fill needs.

Blow it up. Trade everyone possible except Dunn or Oso. Maybe replace JJ before??!!!

IMO, replacing James Jones is the ideal long term solution, however, it's hard to see it happening mid-season.

My guess is the Suns try a temporary fix now, see if it works, and look for a more permanent solution this summer.

FWIW,

Jimmy Butler's preferred trade destinations are the Suns and Warriors.

I think "blow it up" should be the plan but the timing is critical. If we did it today we'd be lucky to get back pennies on the dollar for our veterans.
Yeah… do it closer to the trade deadline or wait until after the season, blow out James Jones and bring in a new voice with a new vision to make the deals.

How about an off the wall trade idea?

Jimmy Butler wants out of Miami. Phoenix trades Durant to Miami for Butler and filler.

I don't think Miami would trade for Beal. Butler is a year younger than Durant.

Both teams keep their championship dreams alive, plus Miami sends the Suns first round picks as sweetener.

I said from the start a KD for Butler trade makes more sense for Miami than Beal for Butler. If we gained an additional asset, I'd do it.

Yeah, I kept trying to work the trade out in my mind. The Heat are unlikely to trade for Beal, but Durant is a different story.

Erik Spoelstra could do wonders with Kevin Durant in Miami and the Heat sweeten the trade by adding first round draft picks.

Both teams save face and come off looking like winners.
