While two seasons ago(and even last season) you could have an open debate as to what had worth more between Denver Nuggets and Chicken McNuggets, the team seems headed in the right direction.

If they do sign Andre Miller and Corey Maggette(as has been speculated and if Clippers don't match), their team will appear to match up very similarly to the Suns. So, down the road, how will they compare?

Point Guard
Stephon Marbury vs. Andre Miller

Stephon is the obvious choice here. Miller could become very good still and a distributor is just what Denver needs, but Stephon is Stephon and that's that.

Shooting Guard
Joe Johnson vs. Corey Maggette

Remember, we're talking down the stretch here. I think both players fit their teams needs well. However, I would probably give a slight nod to Maggette, but both players have a lot of improving to do.

Small Forward
Shawn Marion vs. Carmello Anthony

Right now the clear cut winner is Shawn Marion. Anthony definantly has the potential to be a better player than Marion, but don't forget that Marion isn't done growing either. Edge to Marion, but if Melo starts balling, look out.

Power Forward
Amare Stoudemire vs. Nene Hilario

Nene is gonna be very good, but I'll take Amare here any day of the week. More agressive, more exciting and has shown much more so far on the court.

Center
To be announced vs. To be announced

Nene and Amare will both likely play some center throughout their careers, but I would like to think that the center on both teams for the future is at this point still not on the team.

Bench
Zarko, Barbosa, Voskuhl and company vs. Tskitishvilli, Harvey, Yarbough and company.

Almost impossible to say how these players will end up.

Maybe it's just the Suns fan in me, but I'd like to think that the boys in purple and orange will be the better team down the stretch. The big matchup here for years to come will be Amare vs. Nene.

Maggette to Denver is not a done deal. The Clippers will probably match the offer that the Nuggets gave Maggette.

The Nuggets should have offered a little more.

How is that team similiar?

Denver was soooo bad last season and they are losing their best player. Phoenix has 2 allstars and the ROY.

Andre Miller is older than Marbury and much worse. Denver's bench is a bunch of 2nd round picks and we still have Penny.

The Nuggets won't make the playoffs for another 3-4 years at least.

Very true. Watching the Nuggets last year, was truly a depressing thing to do.

Go to Broncosfreak.com and look at the Nuggets section. Some of the fans are actually talking about the playoffs! WOW.

This year's free agency is a huge bust. Other than Ason Kidd, pretty much every available player is a second-tier player (Maggette, Olowokandi, etc.).

Sure Payton is still a first tier point guard, but overall this free agency class won't turn a loser into a winner.

I think you actually showed how faulty their blueprint is.

Melo hasn't proven jack, and it's not like they have any allstars on that team. We have two allstars and another potential allstar (who could be the best player at his position).

Nene will probably never be the best player at his position, and I doubt that Melo will be either. Andre Miller isn't a top pg, even though he is pretty good, and Maggette is nowhere clos to being a top shooting guard.

To win in the NBA, a team has to have two top five players at a position (top five pg, top five pf, etc.) and a core of 4-5 pretty good players. The Nuggets have the core of 4-5 pretty good players, but probably won't have the top five players.

That is if you consider Andre Miller a big player...

Andre Miller
Corey Magette
Lamar Odom
Elton Brand
Michael Olowokandi

Marko Jaric, Quentin Richardson, Melvin Ely, Chris Wilcox, Eric Piatkowski...

How is Denver's lineup even close to that even if they sign Miller and Magette?

The Nuggets will be lucky if they can get ahead of Seattle, Mempis, Golden State or Houston.

Again, this isn't for next season, but down the road. Their projects are all extremely raw and unrpoven, hence the highly speculative nature of this thread.

Andre Miller looked like crap last year.

Not sure if he just lost his desire in L.A.? Usually players come up big in contract years. That could say something about his makeup.

I thought the Clips played better when Marko Jaric was running the show.

Olowakandi? Another head case.

Yeah, he's improved. But, he's stiff as a board.

Did I say he was a cancer??

The Denver Nuggets to have a nice future ... on paper. However it's easy to look at a team position by position and say they will be good. A lot of a team's success can be attributed to good chemistry though. It remains to be seen what kind of chemistry they will develop.

PS I would take Corey Magette over Joe Johnson right now and probably in the future as well. The only thing that Johnson might have on him is ballhandling. Magette keeps getting better too.

Totally agree with that assessment.

FYI, Maggette's agent has told the Denver Post that the story that ESPN ran about Maggette signing with the Nuggets is false.
