Who scores 70 points....in a LOSS? Ridiculous
Are you saying that he shouldn't have been playing those minutes because they were losing (in a game that he made as close as it was)? Or shouldn't have been playing hard because the team was bad and they were losing? Or that he shouldn't have been trying to score because scoring should only be done on winning teams? I don't understand your complaint here.

One tool he seems to lack to me is competitiveness. I don't get the impression he wants to win all that much, or beat his man for that matter. That's a pretty significant factor in growth potential, as it seems to me the players that grow the most are those with a strong competitive drive.

Does it seem like Ayton is just going through the motions, just to get paid?? i still haven't seen any competitive edge where he wants to just dunk on someone or deny them with a huge block. He just doesn't have the 'it' factor is basketball terms.

That was the biggest knock on him before the draft, and he's lived up (or down) to that.

His predraft quote of “what makes you motivated once you get paid” is certainly a scary foreshadowing . . .

I think people are expecting him to be AD or KAT right now, but neither were any better than Ayton as a rookie. Would rather Jones say to fans to exercise patience, but anyone who thinks Ayton is anywhere near a finished product is a fool

Agree, it's way too early to compare Ayton to Anthony Davis or Karl-Anthony Towns at this stage of his career. If one does want to form some comparison of these player it's best to use their rookie stats. Ayton should only get better.

I remember when he was drafted, he was asked something along the lines of what do you want to accomplish. His response was make it to his second contract. At the time, I thought it was odd and worrisome. Now, I think it's quite telling.

It worried me early on when Ayton was talking about his concerns about getting to that next big contract and how he was going to get there.

OK, glad it wasn't just me.

Who says I don’t? Just because a fan is realistic, doesn’t make him not a fan. It makes you a fanatic.

Every post you've made here says you're not. There's a difference between being realistic and being a troll. You display troll like behavior in every post you make on the Suns forum. Like saying how the Suns will never recover from passing on Doncic, how Booker is a stat stuffing scrub, and everyone in the Phoenix sports media is an idiot. Throw in how you praise the Lakers and it's clear that you aren't a Suns fan and the only reason you won't come out and admit it is so you can continue taking jabs at the team on this forum.

Here's an article on the comment I was referring to.

Deandre Ayton was asked Wednesday to define what success in the NBA looks like to him.

"Definitely getting to my second contract; that's my success," Ayton said at media availability for top lottery picks.

Looking back, this should've had us running to the podium to draft Doncic, but those physical measurables and athleticism are just so damn blinding. Age old tale, fell for looks over substance.

I'm not sure why the worst interpretation is placed on this comment. It could be viewed as a matter of success not merely a measure of money.

With what we know of him now, do you think he was referring to on court success rather than money? If on court success was more important to him than money, why not refer to it directly? Especially with the way a comment like that might be interpreted by NBA teams. I think it was a moment of uncalculated honesty, in which he then tried to backpedal. However, what bothers me more than the interest in money, is the comment's complete lack of competitive tone.

He's a mistake. He still can be a great player, but I don't think he has the drive to be the player we want or envisioned. He's certainly not the player we should've taken first.

So if he’s a great player, how is he a “mistake?”

These were the comments of a 20 year old player.
