One big difference is that, historically, the administrators of this board have been Cardinals fans more than Suns fans, and they give their fellow NFL fans more leeway.

I've read some threads in the Cardinals forum that have gotten really argumentative and nasty, but it's okay because everyone's just "passionate," and besides, the important people all know each other.

As soon as there's a disagreement in a Suns thread, by contrast, moderators swoop in to shut it down and start banning people. Then, when there's a discussion about whether a ban is excessive, that thread gets deleted. So 95% of the Suns forum is milquetoast "support the team" tripe, which you can't rebut without getting targeted.

Simply put, the Cardinals forum is open and the Suns forum is heavily censored. That makes this board a lot less welcoming to Suns fans.

Man... you've made this claim numerous times but as someone who loved both teams, I never saw the preferential treatment over there.

Hell, I think the mods are BETTER over here about clamping down on the problem children over here. Do you really want the sometimes outrageously stupid fights that the Cards board has?

Is it because SlinSlin was temp banned and you think there are far worse members posting in the cards forum then him?

I think he saying just that, that this forum clamps down on the problem child to quick/much that it doesn't keep the forum active.

I notice when there is a controversial thread, or a thread that get some back lash, the activity of the forum sky rockets. For example, the dwash post I closed. That thread was active. When we stop a member on this forum from being controversial, it kills the activity. I some what agree, but there are times when it needs to be stopped.

Do you not see how these kind of statements contributed to slin going over the line? His name is slinslin, calling him almost anything else is childish and out of line.

I've found if one gives respect they usually get respect in return. It's not 100% but it greatly reduces conflict.

Was more active, but basically a lurker now. Love the Suns, but it seems like whenever they start seeing promise again, they stop rebuilding or try to put a bandaid on it with an old free agent. I feel like they are nearing a crossroads again: A chance to do something great with their assets and current roster. it remains to be seen if they follow through with the plan.

So for you not posting much in the Suns board, it's because they stink right now?

Not exactly. The question of what ban was appropriate for slinslin devolved into a question of whether or not people like his posts, which shouldn't be the question at all. Being challenged by an opposing viewpoint doesn't warrant muting it. And, in that thread it was pointed out that there was a double standard of offensiveness being applied; several people (including cheesebeef) wondered why nothing was done about the Holocaust joke.

And then finally, once the discussion got heated, it was simply obliterated from the record. Not brought to resolution by the moderators, not locked -- it was just made to disappear. That was an act of cowardice that I'll have a hard time getting over.

As I said in the slinslin thread, there is no ability to close a thread that I can find on this new board.

Thus the only option I had was to trash it. I would have preferred to close both threads honestly

And just to clarify, I am a Suns fans first and foremost. Cards are my second favorite team in the valley.

Even as bad as they have been, I have watched games and attended games.

And since Eric wishes to question the results of the Holocaust joke.

I have warned the person here (which is a new mechanism before you ban you can warn) and I have discussed with Cheesebeef over PMs.

The matter is closed on both sides as of now. I have been direct that this sort of thing isn't to be made light of or is a joke and the content doesn't belong on ASFN.

It's not about being controversial... it's about being offensive. I still don't know how Bodha hasn't been banned after making racist statements about black women and posting Holocaust jokes. That's pretty disgusting and would never have flied on the board years ago.

You want GOOD activity, not activity because people are feeding a troll, IMO anyway.

Honestly thats part of it. Life gets busy as well, so between the two less posting happened..
Yeah life gets busy and when your team stinks they just become less of a priority and as a result you post less. That's accurate for me.

Yep. And when you aren't sure they will make the right decisions to build a consistent winner, it's more frustration than anything. Like I said before, I think they are in a place with a few key pieces to FINALLY do something good. But maybe we can start with making the playoffs as goal one :)

Football has the advantage of being once a week, so most of the fans on a board are able to see the game, post during and after it, and feel generally up on the conversation league-wide. Plus game times are mostly during the day on weekends and never later than 9 Eastern on a weeknight. The Suns are my favorite team, but living in the Eastern time zone it's much easier to prioritize Cardinals games. Obviously the Cardinals being generally good and the Suns generally bad has affected things in the last few years.

The board being smaller definitely allows beefs between two posters to become interminable and interminably boring to others. Or an individual poster's hatred for a specific player seems to take up a lot of oxygen.

Weirdly, though, if the Suns become contenders again, I may actually visit the board less because there will be more Suns coverage elsewhere. That's definitely happened to me with the Cards.

Or maybe the Suns board just isn't the same without Andrew.

More coverage else where? What sites would you go off to?

Not trying to disparage anyone but the main reason I stopped posting/paying close attention to the Suns forum has a lot to do with a few of the posters. There is a lot of beating of dead horses on the forum. Certain people tend to say the same exact things in each topic over and over and over.

Yeah, we probably do. Hopefully it's more a matter of the dismal situation the past several years and the fact it's been polarizing rather than the personalities involved. That way a change for the better for the team will resolve this issue, at least somewhat.

In my case specifically it would probably be that the Suns would get discussed more on podcasts I listen to such as Zach Lowe, Simmons, etc. I'm out of market so often I come here because I haven't heard anything about the Suns at all for a few days or weeks. When I'm in Phoenix I take advantage and watch more games and listen to local talk radio.

Honestly can some one just ban the dude again, two seconds back and he's already at it, no lesson learned. The fact you didn't ban him for at least the draft proved he's right on one thing, that the mods don't know what they're doing.

Thank you Chris - I said privately how wrong it is that we come to asfn for enjoyment and have to put up with a little angry man show, so I'm now saying it publicly (if I haven't already).

And I take my ban on the chin, I over stepped the mark with my joke so apologies for that; I tried to delete it but had been already quoted.

A pretty heavily ironic series of events I might add!

A guy telling the board to grow thicker skin over name calling, only to report me for name calling, and me saying I've never insulted anybody on this board, only to insult somebody on this board (even though it was strictly a joke, albeit too close to the edge as mentioned).
