per Gambo & Ash - now confirmed by the east valley trib
5 year extention
6mil per

about 5 years, about 30 mil

he will fly in tommorow from Brazil, sign, and then fly back to brazil to keep practicing with the team

still has next year to play on 1.6 mil
so hes under contract for next 6 years

will be finalized tommorow

on Diaw:
Diaw might have to reduce his asking amt a bit in order to have suns sign him this offseason
both sides still talking alot

one shoe drops - now how about the other?

Seems like a decent deal, although if this is an either/or thing with Diaw, I don't like it. Come on Suns, get Diaw signed and the off-season will be a decent success.

actually, according to George, none of this could be true considering there HAS to be face to face time in order for deal to get done, right George?

Good move keeping Barbosa. Now hopefully the Diaw contract situation doesen't end the same as the Joe Johnson one.

Like the numbers for Barbosa. That is probably the max I would have offered him.

The Diaw situation makes you sweat a little, but the fact that they are talking a lot is a very good sign.

I thought that the Suns could afford to wait on Barbosa with the arrival Banks. They need to get Diaw done. I wonder how much Diaw wants.

I think the signing shows that they are serious about Barbosa being the backup SG for years to come. The priority for him now is to improve his defense. It would be terrific if Raja's sitting doesn't sacrifice our defense at the position. Barbosa is short, but he needs to make use of those long arms, which would allow him to defend bigger than he is.

that is a great signing for the money!

very happy to hear this. his contract turns him into an asset long-term and not a ball & chain.

5/30 means he starts at less than 5m in the 1st year of the deal.

wonder how barbosa can be a backup who makes more than bell?

the only thing is that if diaw signs we now have no impact players without a lot of money committed to them.

his length helps on the perimeter, but it's in the post that he really gets abused. That's where his 185 pound frame is a problem.

Barbosa better keep improving. I like him, but that's absolutely the most I would have given him.

I guess it's not a bad deal, though I don't really care for Barbosa. I just want them to sign Diaw already!

This really does look like a good contract. Barbosa will only be about 28 when this is over, right? So, is it $4M/$5M/$6M/$7M/$8M? I wonder if there are team and player options towards the end of this contract....

Good price. This is essentially the MLE - which I am pretty sure Barbosa would have netted next summer as an RFA. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if a team would have offered a little more than the MLE for him.

Next summer is going to be a douzey.

as long as we can drop KT's contract, we'll probably only be looking and throwing in $3mil or so into the LT...which isnt worth losing Marion or Diaw

I like Barbosa but thats too much money for what he brings - I wouldn't have gone a penny over 5/25 and I think 5/22 would be fair compensation. His game just has too many holes for him to ever be able to start at either SG or PG - and he's had intensive coaching. He cannot run the P&R, has tunnel court vision and he doesn't move without the ball. On defense, bigger SG's post him up and murder him and quicker guards regularly take him off the dribble.

I know he's young and can improve but his progress on everything but scoring has been glacially slow.

i'm going to go out and say that had Salmons not gotten such an unreasonable contract, then we would have netted Barbs for probably $5.5mil per year. but once again, it just takes a few bad contracts to over-inflate the market.

What some of you naysayers forget is that he's only 23 years old.

Barely a rookie in NBA-speak.

Top 5 first steps in the world. Long arms. Deadly 3 point accuracy. Helped push PHX past the L.A.'s. Needs to work on man D, but seems to be very coachable.

He's a guy you want on your team.
