Haven't posted in years. I really like how the Suns look now. The only hope is that Ayton starts becoming a fiercer presence down low and shakes off his softness but he's young and very gifted.

Thanks. I thought this site was gone but I searched for it and was surprised I could still log in. I might be a bit more active and I definitely missed you guys.

This should be the season the Suns make the playoffs or there are going to be a lot of sad faces around here. It's good to have you back.

@jagu

Did you like the trade for Chris Paul? I especially hated to see Rubio go.

I feel like there's a better shot to pull out close games with Paul running the point than Rubio. Rubio had a good year with them last year. I think it also sends a message to Booker that the team is serious about moving forward and surrounding him with better talent as well. Just hope Paul stays healthy all year. Payne seems like an effective backup so far.

I think the trade has worked out well thus far. No complaints. Keeping Devin Booker happy is the most important thing. I do salivate at the idea if the Suns had kept Rubio along with Payne and drafted Haliburton.

No we're arguing about how this place has become the "Ayton Sucks and Phoenix Suns" message board.

He was the first number one pick we've had ever and is getting outplayed by at least two players drafted after him. His mouth is constantly writing checks his butt can't cash. He is so deluded about the effort he puts forth and his impact on the court that he tattooed "DOMINAYTON" on his back.

Stoudemire had some of the same false sense of self and accomplishment, but at least he tried to tear the rim down every time he got the ball as a youngster.

I even think Bagley is starting to play better than Ayton, and he had BUST written all over him early on.

I made reference to this somewhere in this thread, but its the twitter video clip where he drew the charge that was overturned. But the quickness from half court to the 3pt line to block Fox from driving in was amazing.

As I recall Payne got another charge on Fox shortly thereafter which was not overturned. The referees were probably in disbelief that Payne was quick enough to get set in front of Fox the first time. He is very quick in his own right and elusive enough to get by defenders.

It's all about staying healthy for Bagley. He is an incredible athlete.

The first couple years he was not hitting the boards and shot blocking like he is now.

I think a lot of it depends on him being healthy. Anyone related to Joe Caldwell has to be good.

Wow. I think you might want to stop reading the threads here about Ayton and spend a little more time watching the Kings play. Bagley kills that Kings team almost every time he's on the floor. He makes the GS version of Oubre look good. It's very early obviously but so far he has a PER of 7.7 for a team that's won 2 of their 3 games. And for a weak defender, that's scary.

They players might occupy the same slots but the ability is way off.

book is nowhere near the two way player that kawhi is. And I’d be shocked if he’s ever considered a top 5 player in the game as kawhi has been.

Paul was better than Lowry at their peaks, but Paul is also much further from his peak than was Lowry and the further down the road we get the less Paul will be able to occupy this slot.

Ayton as Ibaka is a slight lean to Ayton.

bridges/cam don’t compare favorably with siakam. Maybe one will with time, maybe.

Payne to van vleet is a joke

I think Toronto is a bad comp. I still go back to Hamilton-wallaces-billups pistons as beat comp. no top 5 nba guy, but great depth. Not saying suns will compare defensively. But it will be with great depth across entire roster that will hopefully win games.

Van Vleet was 11/4 per game in 18-19. Cam is right there.

Payne is proving me wrong. I believed he was a nice find, post bubble, but I really didn’t think he would keep his level of play this high.

I think it’s fair to say that the bubble was much closer to “real” basketball than all of us thought. The adjustments of Saric at the back-up 5 and Mikal/CamJ taking Oubre minutes were huge. And, of course, the Payne acquisition working out beyond wildest expectations.

All the credit to Monty for coaching this kid. He was going nowhere fast when we picked him up. And James Jones for taking a flyer on him.

Let’s not forget Sarver lobbying Silver like crazy to get the Suns in the bubble.

It’s amazing how a team can click with minor adjustments. Getting rid of Oubre was huge. He was a help when he first joined the team but a detriment as the team developed beyond him.

Oddly I feel like he is a good player for a bad team that desperately needs someone to provide energy. However he just isn't, at least at this point, a guy that plays a big role on a good team. Especially not one that wants to score on offense by keeping the ball moving and wants to focus of strong fundamentals on defense.

credit where it’s due there also.

and for resurrecting Mr. Miyagi from the dead to fix Dario’s leg. That must have cost a pretty penny.

Thanks for the humor. Sitting in urgent care with my 82 year old father with Covid related issues. I am almost completely done with this, beyond 14 days now, but dad is really having a hard time kicking it.
