Peter Vescey is a damned fool...if he wasn't, we'd have had Patrick Ewing on this team years ago according to him.

No way this organization wants Ron Artest...

April Fool joke?

I guess since Artest's value is quite low for the type of player he is, any team can make an offer to see if Pacers takes it or not. lol It's just an offer but I doubt we'll trade anybody now.

Artest has a pretty small contract for an allstar I thought. We still have valueable picks from the JJ trade and the trade exemption.

I could see us making an attractive offer and why the hell not, Artest could add something special to this team.

Peter Vecsey has been right about many rumors concerning the Suns in the past.

Yeah, I don't get the hate.

Vescey has been pretty complimentary about the Suns over the years.

Did you hear this yourself on NBA TV, or second hand?

I've said before that I think Artest would be worth the risk. Sure, he's a nutjob, but the potential "upside" -- God I hate myself for using that word -- is extremely high.

Previous discussion on this board seemed to settle on Barbosa, Jackson, and the lesser Atlanta pick as the maximum package the Suns might be willing to offer. I'd be happy if that panned out, even while being aware of the risk that it might be a disaster.

What about both picks from Atlanta and Barbosa? Would you do that? I honestly have not heard a better rumored offer anywhere (Clippers arent gonna trade Maggette). It fits exactly what Indiana wants draft picks (one potentially 4-9 pick next year), a young player, and salary relief. I believe this trade works with our 3.5 million exception.

No, the better Atlanta pick is too valuable. I can't remember the complicated protection rules on it, but there's a decent chance that that pick will be very high.

You can't combine a player and an exception. The Suns would have to send $6 mil. in salaries.

All I can say is if the Suns do this I hope they know something we don't. Artest is totally insane and capable of going off at any moment.

I'd definately do that.

I mean Barbosa showed promise but House has taken over his job pretty well now.

Draftpicks could always be busts and Artest could be the difference for this team. Hell of an offensive player but even better defensively, probably best in the league.

Artest ist top20 player at worst in the league when playing so that's a pretty cheap price to pay and I am sure the Suns could trade him if it doesn't work out. There will always be a trade market for great players.

the last two years in a roll artest has gone of the deep end at almost the same time. it is almost like he comes in does training camp and then gets into the season and remembers how long it is and thinks that he doesnt want to be there, so he does something that will get him out.

First, for those who rule this as blasphemic, for all we know, the offer could be a rusty, used Paul Shirley jockstrap for Artest. No guarantee the Pacers are going to accept the deal. In truthfulness, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Phoenix DID try to get in on the act. And should they acquire him, I guarantee you, unless the bank is broken to make the deal, I'd be freaking estatic.

Say what you will about Artest's personality, the guy is a playmaker, and one of the best defensive players in basketball. You think the Spurs wouldn't be trembling in their shoes at the thought of having to face off in a Best of Seven with a team boasting of Nash, Artest, The Matrix, Diaw and a healthy Amare, with Grant, Jones and the depth they have?

I guarantee you, Artest is capable of putting this team over the top, having this kind of impact and putting the rest of the NBA on their toes.

As for his personality, sure he's firey. Sure, he's a lightning rod of controversy.. However, he's also WORTH the investment. Come on, he's NOTHING compared to Sir Charles, and we put up with Barkley's act for four years, and are a better organization BECAUSE of it. I'll take any headache Ron Artest brings to the table for a championship ring any time.

That's what I was thinking... we traded for Barkley and he is still loved by the fans, it's definately possible the Suns would trade for Artest.

Most of the packages I have read about that the Suns could put together include Bell, a pick and Barbosa.

There have been some that included Jones instead of Barbosa too.

I would take the gamble on Artest as long as it didn't get too much more expensive than that. Like everyone has said - Artest is just too good to pass up. I also think that wherever he lands he will be on his best behavior for at least the rest of the season.

Barkley never asked for a month off to promote his rap album.

And the Suns can't offer nothing, they have to match salaries.

Nah, he just threatened to retire every year, and spent his post-seasons throwing people out windows :biglaugh:

Did anyone actually hear this on NBA TV, or is this whole thing bogus in the first place?

OK, Barkley was a total idiot but I always got the feeling that he wanted to win. Watching Artest sometimes it seems like he doesn't even like playing basketball.
