Suns need to find toughness...a little nasty

Even though it's not their "style", championship teams at every level need guys willing to get their noses dirty. Save a Nash bloody nose, an inspired Raja Bell is about the only guy who gets any floor time that has a little nasty streak.

Kurt Thomas is tough but he's not intimidating many guys. Who's available that could provide that "Bowen" (or Lambeer, Rambis, Rodman...) for 25 plus minutes a night in the playoffs?

Then get Artest.

I am serious about this. If we could get him without getting too much, he might be a better aquisition than anyone else.

Hang chemistry. Blow it up on the court.

What about a Rasheed Wallace. Another piece of work, but apparently teammates love him. He'd offer a lot of great intangibles including toughness.

Artest would be the perfect player for this team. Perfect.

We need a "goon" to bring off the bench. I like Fortson. Too bad none of this is happening. D'Antoni runs a finesse team.

They'd need a guy who would be on the floor for substantial minutes and can get up and down the floor at a Suns' pace. I think Forston would need to come with a respirator.

artest can be all the goon you want

KT for Artest works straight up. Artest can play both forward positions and the two in our scheme. I'd love to put him on Ginobili for a quarter or two.

Imagine a sometimes line-up of Amare, Marion, Artest, Bell, Nash.

He's not the defender Artest is, or the goon some want, but isn't Stackhouse consider a "tough guy" around the league? Is there any interest for him around these parts?

In Stackhouse you get zero defense, a streaky shot, and a guy that needs to dominate the ball to be effective. I can't see him fitting in well here.

Artest brings more to the floor than stackhouse.

Other than sanity, yes, he does.

Artest never learned that the trick to intimidation is to make people think you're crazy and capable of going off, not actually go crazy. And you're not supposed to intimidate your own teammates, coaches, fans, and family.

I totally agree on Artest. I say give up Diaw and Banks (for contract purposes) for him straight up (the money works). If we could get him and sign PJ Brown, we'd be absolutely vicious defensively. Plus we'd be pretty versatile.

I can't really make a solid argument for him, since I've only watched him play against the Suns, but the thread was about toughness and a little nastyness, and it seems to me he's that type of player.

Ive been for artest ever since his last arrest. Get him cheap, put him under dantoni, he will be running too often to get into any trouble

His game actually fits well into Phoenix's scheme. He's a decent enough three point shooter (he shot 36% last year), but his best suit is his slashing ability. It would fill a void we've had since JJ left.

Why settle for a little nasty when we can get the "Big Nasty". Yep, Corlis Williamson is a FA this summer.

The Kings are an awful situation for him. It's a bunch of former all stars on the downside of their careers, with a soft head coach and no discernable leader. I think if he came to Phoenix, we could keep him in check, at least for a couple of years. He was great for Sac-town when they were a playoff team with a well respected coach.

There is absolutely no way Artest is ever in a Phoenix uniform. All he does is fail everywhere he goes. His presence is the precursor to destruction of a team.

Artest is always good for a year.

I wouldn't buy that if it were guaranteed in Artest's contract. But even if he were good for a year, he's got a two-year contract and the second is a player option.

What do the Suns really have to lose? If we dont have to trade much for the guy its a no brainer. I dont know his current situation but I like the idea.
