They have Cam Payne signed already. Backup PG isn't as big of a weakness as a lot of people make it out to be. We still need a 3rd string PG unless Shamet will handle that role this season, which is a possibility.
I don't have as much faith in CP3 going into this season, and I don't have as much faith in Payne going into this season. We need someone who can take on a heavy workload.

There are a couple that I think are worth exploring. Not all, but there are a few on this list that I am intrigued by.

  1. Collin Sexton, G, Cavaliers (23) – restricted and too expensive
  2. LaMarcus Aldridge, C/F, Nets (37)
  3. Hassan Whiteside, C, Jazz (33)
  4. Kemba Walker, PG, Knicks (32)
  5. Carmelo Anthony, F, Lakers (38)

Not bad. Aldridge is going to be 38 this year? I would probably pass. I would look at Cousins before him but that doesn't thrill me either. I would include Harrell in that list and drop Anthony. It's not like we have a treasure trove on that list or a ton of money.

I think Cousins would be a problem beyond the basketball court, so no thanks there.

I agree with you, but I'm not sure if the Suns view it as a priority at the moment.

There has been a lot of smoke about the future of Jae Crowder.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't have as much faith in the team generally, because I keep suspecting that all the team has to give against an opponent is out in plain sight; and if it's not enough...too bad.

I'd like to see if that player who can take a heavy load at point guard might be Duane Washington, but I have no reason to think coach would let him play. I don't want to see Cameron Payne anywhere except on the end of the bench.
This take just doesn't make much sense to me. You're basing the entire team on a two week period a couple months ago, completely dismissing the previous 18 months. That's mind-boggling to me.

If only we had drafted a PF. One of the hardest spots to fill, and were gonna pick up some waiver wire BS and lose Jae in the process.
I don't want anyone on that list really. I'm soo tired of Phoenix being the place where NBA players come to die.

I'm sure we held out for KD so long to keep Booker happy. That might screw us a bit.

Yes and no. It really doesn't matter how you start. Just how you finish. Plus, guys like Payne had not played well since mid-March and shot horrible from 3 all season. It's not that simple for me. The team needs to make more moves or they are not coming out of the West IMO.

Yeah why would you have faith in a PG that led the league in assists had a perfect game in the playoffs and turned your team around.

That man is STILL the point god until he crawls off the court for the last time IMO.

How is Tristan Thompson still only 31 years old? Maybe he and Booker could commiserate over their bad Kardashian experiences. (Was it the same one? I lose track.)

The Kardasian in the wild normally sucks the life from men. Domesticated Kardasians can if they like you add some life.

I'd be fine with Thompson on a minimum deal.

I'd look at Blake Griffin and Lou Williams. Griffin would be an interesting option as he can actually hit a three pointer while having the size to play in big lineups.

Williams had a pretty bad year, but I think he is worth a gamble behind Payne.

I realize both these guys are washed up, but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that they can play 5-10 minutes per game.

Yeah, but Payne was pretty good the year before. We don't know how he will play this season yet.

I do think we need to add a something to come out of the west, but the biggest factor is going to be Ayton - if he would play to his potential we might already be good enough.

If that's the category of player we're talking about, the Suns might as well go Anthony over Griffin. Anthony has at least shown that he's agreeable to a smaller role; he has, however improbably, redefined himself as a pretty good teammate.

I'd be good with Williams. I don't know what happened to him last year, but I doubt he's lost it completely.

Doesn't Griffin hate CP3?

What worries me beyond Carmelo being Carmelo is he's good friends with Chris Paul. If rumors are true that Paul is rubbing some players the wrong way then you don't add one of his best friends that could amplify his voice in the locker room. Would Paul be fine if the Suns decided to cut Anthony also? If he's not playing well, I can see him being ok with that but if you try and cut him because you don't like how his presence disrupted the locker room even more, can Paul handle that?

Maybe the Suns want a power forward that can create his own shot.
Absolutely. A power forward that can grab more 1-5 rebounds consistently and could give help Ayton defending the paint as that key was a wide open lane. And create his own shot on offense. It's a void needs to be filled. There's a player out there like that. The Suns gotta find him as he may be sitting on some teams bench just undiscovered waiting to shine.

I've heard he is waiting to sign with the Suns but we know how that goes.
Now he probably wants us. He rejected the Suns before. My the tables always turn somehow. I doubt if he is on the Suns list though this time.

The Rockets embarrassed Anthony to a degree that no "star" has suffered before and Paul kept playing for em.

But I don't see us getting Anthony. I don't think he fits with this team or fills any need that we have.

A solid three-point shooter with size who can reliably create his own shot? He may not fit, but he definitely would fill a need.
