Great news. I don't particularly like him at that price, but it is far better than getting drained in a S&T. I think Hornets follow through and match.

Hornets now have 3 days to match EGordon offer sheet. They definitely will but early indications I get is they'll make PHX wait full 3 daysNO has until the 14th to match i believe.

I would think that waiting three days is pretty much automatic. Why wouldn't you take the opportunity to hamstring an opposing team?

Watch Gordon blow out his knee during a shootaround tomorrow.

I'm glad sign and trade is off the table for Gordon. It's bad enough to offer him the max. Glad Babby did not fall in this trap. I heard Babby on the radio about 15 minutes ago and he has a myriad of backup plans which he could not discuss now obviously.

Or perhaps NO simply wasn't interested in trading him despite of what the Suns might have offered. Either way, it's probably for the best, but only time will tell.

I could see NOLA matching immediately to show him that they are serious about him being part of their future. It could help mend fences so-to-speak. But strategically it's better for them to wait.

Why does he want to play for us?

I understand his brother is at ASU.

He wants to lead the league in scoring and with this current team he can do that. In NO they will be trying to force feed Davis.

They could also tell him right now that they're going to match, and that making the Suns sweat it out anyway is part of the take-no-prisoners attitude that he'll get to be a part of in New Orleans.

True, but I'm sure his agent will pass that news on to us, so we can turn our attention to his other client, Mayo while they play that game and we wait for the formalities.

Can the Hornets do a sign and trade with Gordon with another team? I didn't think so but the article linked below seems to indicate yes. I thought the earliest Gordon could be traded after he signed a contract with the Hornets is sometime after a minimum waiting period... December I believe.

http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2012/07/new_orleans_hornets_restricted_3.html

That guy has been pumping a lot of misinformation but he didn't technically say anything wrong in that piece. They can trade Gordon but not until December 15th, so it wouldn't be a S&T.

Just thinking over this Eric Gordon situation while we are waiting on N.O. to make a decision.

If Eric Gordon would have not spoken to N.O. front office after he signed the Phoenix offer sheet (I'm not talking about his agent) it would seem this would be a way to force his way out of town. Wouldn't the N.O. front office want to sit down with Gordon before the 14th to see if they have a player happy playing there for the max money?

I can't see where N.O. would want to wait until the last minute to have this conversation no matter how they feel about the Suns offer.

Well New Orleans is a fun place, but kind of dirty and a rough place to raise a family. Phoenix is still a premier destination for athletes to live. We have a ton of athletes from other teams that call Phoenix home.

According to what I heard on the radio yesterday, the salary structure is really front loaded. Designed to make it very hard to match.

There had a been a post about that earlier, but it is pretty much confirmed. Babby made it as hard for New Orleans to match as possible.
