The sunS are on pace to win 24 games or so right now. That'll give them 3 straight years of < 25 wins. That would = the worst string of losing since the teams in the late 80s. The difference is that the 80s teams carried huge reputational risk in the wake of the drug scandal. No players wanted to come here until we traded Nance to Cleveland for KJ and Mark West.

In the 80s there was no free agency.

Trivia:

Tom Chambers was the first unrestricted free agent signed in the summer of 1988.

When the new collective bargaining agreement – and its subsequent unrestricted free agency rules – became official in 1988, Suns General Manager Jerry Colangelo looked over at Seattle owner Barry Ackerley.

“You’re going to lose Chambers,” Colangelo said.

The long-time Suns’ manager did not dare assume the star forward would wind up in Phoenix, but he and his staff were determined to do all they could to make that possibility a reality.

At 12:01 a.m. of Friday, July 1, 1988, Chambers’ home phone in Los Angeles rang. On the other end of the line was Suns assistant coach Paul Westphal.

Since you've posted here 34,000 times, why don't you just 'splain it to an ignorant wretch like me. Apparently I don't know shizznit about teh sunS, and you may as well convene the class to ejimicate me.

The fact remains, the Suns stink as a team. They have not demonstrated any desire to improve other than to sink to the lowest denominator to pile up draft picks. Maybe they can pull a new one out and accumulate 3 centers.

My post #128 had a smilie after it which you left off when you quoted it.

Too bad as it was meant to add humor.

The reason I told you to read the article I referenced a few times is because in my post #91 you changed the wording with a "FTFY" to add the word "tanking."

The article was all about the NBA commissioner addressing this very issue. I thought it would be playful to tell you to read it.

Not committed to becoming a sold playoff contender. I never commented about JC's desire to win, JC.

I'll repeat my recap. Win at home; don't get embarrassed on the road; make an appearance in the playoffs.

And I never said "incompetent". Jerry was a skilled marketing man (which was his resume from the Bulls) and, eventually, a key member of the Phoenix 40 who, more than the mayor, led the growth of the city of Phoenix.

I just thought Jerry was a marginal General Manager. And I didn't appreciate that he kept his rigid Head Coach, John MacLeod, for a decade, who insisted on playing his 212-pound Center (whom he coached in college) for that stretch. We never took the next step.

Then there was Jerry naming himself interim Head Coach, not once but twice. If that is not narcissism, nothing is. It wasn't until he headed the D-backs that Jerry learned the do-not's of going for it all. And they won the only major championship in Phoenix history.
