Here is a thought from Evan Every. I have not considered the Suns trading down from #16.

I posted this on another thread not realizing it was here. Donte DeVincenzo is a nice player although I'm not sure he is a starter.

I can't help but get a little bit of a Booker feel with DeVicenzo.

And I've been liking the Hornacek comparison but I think DeVicenzo is more athletic. I'd be more comfortable drafting him at #31 than #16 but it looks like he will be gone before the 2nd round.

I think when you get to #16 you just get the guy you want. Anything between 16 and 31 is a crapshoot, so if you like a particular player, just take them with #16. Don't get cute and trade down.

I heard on Burns & Gambo yesterday that DeVincenzo is in town but doesn’t have a publicly known workout scheduled with PHX. So unless he is a fan of the monsoon season maybe he has a private workout scheduled?

Hard to trust someone (Jordan Schultz) that doesn't know the difference between Kahunas and cojones. <end overreaction mode> I know that the difference between the words is quickly disappearing but I hate it when ignorance paves the way.

I wouldn't touch this kid with a ten foot pole unless for some reason he slipped all the way to 16. Trading up major assets for a guy who really needs to show he's healthy and can't do it... 8 months after a micro-discectomy screams MASSIVE RED FLAG. People will say it's a hip-problem... not back related. But only someone who's never had back surgery could say that without realizing everything in that body is... well... attached at the hip. It's a sign of a continued problem area. And one where he's not even going crazy playing every night or every other night.

The timing is not good for MPJr. He could fall to 16. Teams get really jittery about chronic injury issues in the draft. It's like throwing away a pick.

I mostly agree but I'm waiting for the medical results from Chicago. Back issues seldom go away so I'm very apprehensive about this.

With health issues like this, GM's talk the player up big-time, but when draft day comes, the player slides. Think about it. Let's say you have serious concerns about this player's ability to stay healthy. In fact, you are pretty sure he can't.

Do you still take him over

Trae
Wendell Carter
Mikal Bridges
Miles Bridges
SGA
Sexton

Maybe he goes somewhere in that bunch, but many GM's will just not take him under any circumstances.

Personally. I would say he falls to 9-10.

Then I guess the Suns might try to move up to 9-10 if he is there since they can afford to gamble a bit.

If he's still there at 59, I say take the gamble. Maybe.

This is all about the Suns medical team's opinion. Based upon personal experience, a bad back is risky business.

especially when they start that young... like mine.

Obviously not saying I'm an NBA athlete who all have the best trainers in the world, but I've gotten back to 100 (or close to) multiple times only to get seriously f'ed up by the smallest of things repeatedly since my first surgery when I was 23 (followed by two more MAJOR ones when I was 32).

If you think he falls past all those guys you’re talking 11-13, not 9-10.

For me, it really isn't. There is nothing the medical staff can say that would make this a good pick IMO. All they can really say is "he's healing well, take him at your own risk" or "do not take him no matter what". In this case, a clean bill of health means very little.

I think a lot of posters can attest to this as well including myself.

The way I look at it, draft picks around #16 are a risk anyway so if an exceptional player falls there, I wouldn't balk if the Suns took the risk. If the Suns have to give up a lot to move up, then I would say no.

I'm still waiting word from Chicago on Porter. If the Suns keep #31, I still think they have a chance to get a good player.

I'm doing a lot of mitigation.

I can't see Porter falling past the Clippers at 12 & 13. A team with 2 lottery picks is in the perfect position to gamble with one of them on a player like Porter. If he doesn't work out, at least they drafted someone else. It's like playing with house money for them.
