This is a more recent tweet by Rod Argent about the cost of a G-League franchise. The Suns have kicked the ball down the road 3-5 years.

I can't imagine not looping in your coach who you have signed for 5 years. Unreal.

Eh this appears ugly.

I think we're going to see a lot more of this, in sports and elsewhere. No matter how many games they try to play with the stock market, this economy is going to continue to go south at an unheard of rate. We are not done bleeding, not by a long shot. And Winter is Coming!

Par for the course with this organization.

The Suns were the original reason I joined this board way back when. Now I don’t have more than a passing interest in them. I hope that changes in the near future but I’m not optimistic.

In this specific situation I think this might be a little unfair. Right now, I believe this is the present and future of sports and business in general. Whether it's Disney or the New York Knicks, downsizing will be the new norm and even still, a lot of big name companies are likely to not survive. This is doom and gloom time, with a little luck it won't turn in to DOOM AND GLOOM time.

And anyone who saw season 8 knows just how bad winter can be. ;)

Perhaps but has the organization and current owner given you any reason to give them the benefit of the doubt?

That said, you’re likely right.

You make a good point. Revenue is going to be way down and as a result the cap will shrink.

Does anybody know about player contracts and whether they are tied to the cap # as a percentage of the total. Will all players be taking a pay cut or will it just affect future contracts?

And think about it. Now that the G-League has a union, they are certainly going to ask for higher salaries. Considering how much we didn't use the team, it shouldn't be a surprise that we don't want to deal with escalating costs there.

There is no excuse for not letting the coach know prior to the sell. This part of it can't be sugar coated.

Based on this tweet, Monty may have known they were making the sale, just not that they had actually made it at that time.

Unfortunately, there is an excuse, no matter how frustrating it is.

The banker runs this franchise with an iron fist. And lack of ethics.

Putting goats into his former General Manager's office, to crap all
over the floor, no matter what his intentions were, define Robert
Sarver as being in a world of his own.

Counting the profits from his (what has turned into a) billion dollar
investment is not enough for him. He constantly has to remind
everyone who is in charge. 'Hope he doesn't run for President. :)

Ryan McDonough voices his opinion on twitter.

By Duane Rankin, Arizona Republic 48 mins ago:

In just his second tweet from the @McDNBA Twitter account, McDonough tweeted he "wouldn't recommend" being without a G League when having "the youngest roster" in the NBA.

"I wouldn't recommend having the youngest roster in the NBA without owning a G League team, especially if your plan is to develop the 11th-15th players on your team in actual NBA games. We tried something similar from 2016-18 and the on-court results weren't exactly stellar... ."

Yeah, taking GM advice from a failed GM is always the right way to go.

Why do you guys like Ryan McD so much?

That that IS disturbing, I will admit. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm not sure it's really Sarver's fault. Why didn't James Jones say anything to his coach? Seems strange that, even though the G-League is irrelevant in this shortened season, it would be something that would be worth telling Monty that he's not going to have this tool in his toolbox in the coming season(s).

I don't think it's a big deal but it is a bit surprising. And who knows, maybe Sarver has found a billionaire to sell this team to - someone who has the luxury of waiting out this crisis. Not telling Monty about dumping the minor league team might be just the tip of the iceberg of things he isn't going to be briefed on.

Yes, they are tied to the cap which you'd expect to give some protection to the teams also but there's more to consider. If they can't meet the minimum to keep their contract in place with their TV providers, the bottom is really going to fall out. Pair that with rising costs (it's going to be much more expensive dealing with Covid issues) and loss of several revenue streams and I believe we'll see leagues contracting in the next few years. Of course, that's all based on us continuing to follow our shrugged shoulders approach to this virus.

I really want to believe all these recent moves are a prelude to selling the team.
