Well, there's your beefier situational center. Hopefully this was a veteran minimum signing, and we are saving the BAE/Baynes sign and trade for a back-up scoring guard/wing.

This definitely means we are not keeping both Saric and Baynes.

That’s one of the bounciest bigs I’ve ever seen. Moves well too. Cant understand how a kid like that doesn’t do everything they can to develop the skills that would maximize the god-given talents they possess. Seems like he’ll be better than Diallo.

This reminds me of the Holmes acquisition a couple years back. I think Jones will surprise people and be better than expected.

I like the Damian Jones signing a lot for the price. IMO, more than Diallo.

He is a nice serviceable backup center.

Hmm Hawks fans seem to think he completely sucks.

Well so did Diallo, at least this guy has athleticism and size.

Probably just depends on expectations. I'm guessing they were hoping for more than just a 17 mpg bench player. He can block shots and is a legit lob threat. That's about all we need from him when he touches the floor.

The big question with him seems to be health. Last season was the first he managed to play more than 25 games in a season. He sounds very injury prone.

He tore a pectoral muscle in 2018-19. He also had some time in the G-League.

Here are his games played by season -

2016-17 - 41 [10 NBA, 31 G-League]
2017-18 - 60 [15 NBA, 45 G-League]
2018-19 - 24 [24 NBA (torn pectoral muscle)]
2019-20 - 55 [55 NBA (72-game schedule)]

Also keep in mind he was an end-of-the-bench player for two Golden State championship teams his first two years and had a lot of time on the inactive list.

Suns waive Damian Jones. The Suns now have an open roster spot.

Here is a link to the story.

By Kellan Olson Arizona Sports:

The move gives the Suns an open roster spot. With a 20-10 record and looking the part of a player in the Western Conference, the Suns are certainly in a position to potentially land a name on the buyout market. That tends to heat up right after the trade deadline, which is on March 25.

I would have preferred to keep Jones and waive Galloway.

I think Galloway has more value than Damian Jones. He is a shooter. A team can never have enough of those.

I think the Suns are planning to add a waived player, likely a 4/5. My guess is they have someone in mind.

Are you nuts? Damian Jones completely sucks. He was unplayable.

Galloway on the other hand can be instant offense, and is good insurance for injuries.

I get we need another big man, but Jones was not the answer.

Really? Why? Jones has been the very definition of worthless on court. At least on occasion Galloway heats up and provides a spark.

Jones potentially fills an emergency need. If he's the last big man standing, who would you rather force into that role, Cam Johnson? Galloway is fool's gold, whose occasional "hot" game masks the fact that he's the antithesis of what the Suns are trying to accomplish offensively.
