Finally, he is the key to a championship year and dynasty.

Well...He may actually be an upgrade with the way Lopez has played. I have been a Lopez supporter, but he just doesn't seem to be right physically this year. Hopefully he comes back better after this rest.

Dude better be more productive than Siler, or this is a stupid signing

It's just a try out. However, if he could do the 11 and 11 he did with his last team, throw in a block or two a game, that's all the Suns really need from a center to be an effective team. :) If he doesn't work out, no biggee. We try someone else.

I believe Earl Barron is likely a step up from Siler in terms of experience and on court play now.

However, I would not underestimate Siler's potential. He is just now learning how to play in the NBA. He needs time. I think he could well develop into a backup center. The fact that Gentry would even give him any playing time speaks volumes.

He did not play in the NBA last season.
He did play seven games for the Knicks near the end of last season where he averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. I am not sure why NY did not end up giving him another chance after that, seeing how they could use a center. I was hoping the Suns would give him a look.

Thanks for the correction.

Earl Barron sounds like a wrestler who hails from England and comes in with a cape that is designed like the British flag. Anyway, this guy had serious minutes with the Knicks late last year and had a lot of double doubles. He is pretty decent actually but I don't see him getting many minutes.

I wonder if this signing can be attributed to Suns GM Lance Blanks scouting of NBA players. I'd like to think so if Earl Barron can be a contributor.

A good pickup though personally I wanted Gentry to be forced to try to make something of one of our young bigs. At least Barron isn't an old worn out guy, so if he does work out we can keep him around.

I remember someone in here suggested Barron as a reasonable candidate a month or two back and it didn't create much interest amongst the rest of us. Strange that the Knicks didn't bring him back once they came up short in their FA hunt - they need help in the frontcourt almost as much as we do.

Dude must keep himself in pretty good shape - he sat out the whole last season until the Knicks picked him up and he avg'd 33 minutes a game for the last 7 of the season. Also averaged 11+ rebounds per game (13.2 / 40 min.)

Looking over his career stats, that many rebounds looks like a fluke - his career avg is 8.5 / 40 min. Or maybe he's finally realized he has to bust his butt when he's on the floor if he wants to have a career in the NBA. In any case, he shouldn't have much trouble being our best rebounder until Robin returns.

A smart move by the Suns FO... their first IMO.

Come on. Signing Childress and Warrick weren't good moves?

They were good moves. I liked the Childress acquisition a lot and thought that Warrick was a decent pickup. I was a little disappointed when it became clear Warrick was likely to be our best PF but he's shown better than most of us anticipated. Even the Hedo trade is looking less horrible than many of us first thought.

Had 17 points and 18 boards against the Celtics last year. The guy has a sweet mid range jumper and just a solid, but not spectacular defensive rebounding game. I am encouraged by this signing. Not that I am counting on him, but I am really interested in giving him a look.
