Not at all. I am very worried about his health. He has played in a wide open running game for almost 10 years. I'm afraid of what that has done to his body. However, I think he is a great fit for this team for the next 2 to 3 years, but he doesn't seem to be the long term solution that will put us over the top.

Thank you. I totally agree. They are stuck with that contract. I wouldn't of mid if the deal was for no more than three years but five is too much. Also, they are overpaying another guard in Howard Eisley.

Ever heard of Dirk Nowitzki?

Yeah, but I did not know he played point guard. I would love to have Dirk on the Suns but not at point guard.

Holy cow. I just fell asleep for about an hour, woke up and this is what I find? Well, this definitely makes me nervous. I don't mind that they signed Steve Nash. I've said repeatedly that offensively he is a perfect, perfect fit for the Phoenix Suns. The extra year would not have bothered me, but I would have expected a smaller yearly salary for the extra year.

I worry about the money and also his health. Defensively he isn't very good, but he's hardly as horrible as some people make him out to be. He will be a very good leader for the team.

Derek Fisher? Please he's into even close, he isn't even in the same hemisphere as Steve Nash. I would have been upset if they had signed Fisher for anything at all. He's hardly a step up from Howard Eiseley.

This whole thread is a joke. Yah white guys cant play point gaurd in this league. John Stockton sucked. He never took the Jazz anywhere. And when was the last time there was a white pg as good as Nash? Its not about race its about talent and bball and Nash has both.

Man... I was out playing hockey for a couple of hours and HOLY MOLY !!! I was hoping that the Suns would sign Barry instead Nash but too late now I guess. Nash will be a good fit as he like Barry can hit open shots from outside. Hopefully he will not break down and help Barbosa mature as a PG

Since Nash will sign with us do you think Shaq will still be traded to dallas?

John Paxon player point in the Bulls 3 earlier titles...

Thing is... Amare will lead us to an NBA title(s). Nash will help... but Amare will lead.

you're kidding here right? You're claiming that Paxson was the bulls POINT GUARD - hell I don't think he was even starting for their first three titles.

You're right about Amare - it's got to be him and sadly it looks like him alone - everyone else on this club IMO is soft.

It's a horrible signing because when was the last time a starting CHINESE point guard led his team to the NBA title? :D (As John Cleese used to say, "And now for something totally different.")

Paxson DID start for the Bulls. I think in 93 BJ might have gotten the start but 91 and 92 Paxson started and was a nice piece in the bulls puzzle.

I was responding to that stupid point about - 'when was the last time a white guy point guard led his team to a championship'... that comment is a pretty ******** sum up of the Nash signing.

so you're saying that Paxon played the role of PG - the guy who set up the offense for the Bulls - that is what you're saying right?

Come on now - he was a shooter and nothiong more - just like BJ - there wasn't a PG on those teams - but nice try.

WHO CARES?

White, black, yellow, purple, blue, who gives a rat's ass?

What is with the collective intelligence of this site today, it's like we've all reverted to the dark ages (i.e. the ESPN board)!!

The color is no issue. Nash is not gonna be the star leader anyway. It's the fact that we overpaid a FA again that bothers me, and that I am unable to see how the Suns can become a serious contender anytime soon. Well, maybe my belief in Amare being the second coming is not firm and sincere enough to make me feel good about any move the Suns make. :(

Personally I see Nash as being a John Stockton type. If the Lakers has brought in Stockton instead of Payton, then the Lakers would have the Championship, not the Pistons.

I was initially against the contract issue, but after reading all the posts today on the site, I've decided that maybe we are making a bigger deal about it than we probably should. Would I have liked the contract to be more managemeable? Sure, although we really don't know what the final numbers are--just a vague 65 million being mentioned.

But in the end, I watch the Suns (emphasis on WATCH) the Suns PLAY BASKETBALL. Period. I don't watch the Suns go out and buy a new scoreboard or negotiate with Kevin Willis. I watch them play basketball. And will signing Steve Nash improve my entertainment value of watching the Phoenix Suns play basketball?

Absolutely, no question about it.

And because of that, this signing has to be considered a success.

I think we are freaking out about the contract because we wanted a better center and were willing to take a lesser guard. It appears that we may not be able to afford a center we wanted. I guess we are worried that so MUCH of the cap was taken by Nash. I would be really happy with a Mark Blount. Hopefully Okur is out because of the Nash signing. That would make me feel better about the Nash signing! :)

Great post chaplin, i think you are right that this will be a much more entertaning basketball team. i think we will watch the offense being run much better and if we can get a little better post defender i think our overall team defense maybe much better. amare will be a year older and so will zarko, lampe, barbs and jj. i really believe that this team will be a much better team next year.

I've been a fan since '77 and it seems like this team does things the same way, over and over. That's what bothers a lot of old time fans, it's like watching a car trying to drive up a hill, getting about 3/4's up and spinning it's wheels until it falls backwards.

Look over all those teams the focus has always been: point guard, power foward and a swing type like Walter Davis, Dan Majerle or quick forwards like Marion, Dumas, etc.

So, I can't get too jazzed about Steve Nash. I would not have paid him that much for that long. If anything, roll the money over a year and give it a shot next summer. But, that model did get us CLOSE to titles three times, when we were arguably the best team:

1. Suns vs. Sonics in 78 (the infamous loss on Mother's Day, at home, the Sonics swept a beat up Bullets team).

2. The Bulls series (gagged first two at home)

3. In 94, when we lost to the Rockets in 7, and they swept the Magic.

This whole argument is stupid. Its like saying why would you sign Yao Ming. When did a chinese center ever lead a club to the finals.

A few positive points on Nash:

1. He is going to give Shawn and Amare plenty of lob passes for dunks. Someone mentioned Fisher as a cheaper alternative, but Nash is an esquisite passer;

2. Nash won't have to log major minutes because Barbosa can step in any time. That should help Nash's longevity;

3. Nash will teach Barobosa how to play PG. This is huge.

I think Nash fits this team. Unlike Marbury, he is the guy who can lead the fastbreak and lob up for alley oops. 6 years may be to long but I think this team will be deeper with Nash and maybe a center and maybe possibly mcdyess.

Maybe it's a sign and trade?

Just an idea.

Nash will help Leandro greatly. Nash will fit right in. I love this move. I think we really need a center though. A Jermaine O'Neal type. I'm tired of the Suns going after medicore centers (Camby, White, Voshkul, etc.) We need a strong dominating center (Shaq, Ben Wallace, etc.) Thats what we need. If we add that we're the top in the West.
