Suns Summer League Games

I'm not hearing Tucker's name anymore. A bad sign?

He just made two threes in a row to put the suns within 1 or so. The second 3 his foot was on the line though.

Edit: Suns lose 93-89 but had one hell of a run at the end. Banks must've had 15-20 points in the 4th quarter.

They want Banks to put up about 20 a game in this league to trade him. He couldn't pass and as usual picked up multiple reach in fouls. The guy can be streaky but there is no way they have him out there to see if he can contribute to this team. No freaking way. Nothing has changed.

PS. Tucker seemed to want the ball at the end. Gotta love that.

Strawberry was active and trying hard. He needs to add some muscle, but he at least could stay in front of his man and he is pretty quick.

Sow was forgettable, and Bradley who? That guy was drafted?

Tucker will be alright once he gets his feet wet. Cleveland bodies were much wider, and Darius Rice would be a stud if he could play like that in the NBA (6-10 banger stepping out to hit about 5 threes - no flukes).

Banks - meh. I thought Everett played a better PG than Banks.

I would like to see Banks run the pick and roll with somebody who knows what he's doing. The one time I saw them try it, the guy setting the pick "rolled" to the 3-point line.

I really think that 10 foul rule is stupid, because it really changes the way the players play.

Anyone else have trouble getting the game to stream at all? I tried and tried and was unable to get a stream. Just the same damn Burgercon / "We Love the Fans" commercial a few times then nothing.

Sounds like everybody else just got to watch the second half, too.

Didn't see much trapping on D - I counted three tries and none were of any help to our side. Otis George stood out to me as being very poor. DJ Strawberry looked okay but certainly nothing like a lockdown defender - ran the floor, though.

Banks started the half like he was trying to operate the offense but then he started hogging the ball - he was shooting well, so it was helpful to the team. Still it was not what we wanted to see out of him. He's a worse defender than I remember - way too much gambling.

For the rest of the guys I really didn't figure out who was who - that is one miniscule picture so if you don't recognize a guy by the way he moves, forget it.

Nah. Nash would have been smart enough to know when and when not to pass. Unlike somebody else we know.

It's hard to know when to pass and when not to when you're playing with a bunch of "special players". Seriously... if you put Nash out there with those scrubs I doubt he would have had 5 assists. No one really puts up impressive assist numbers in the SL because there's no flow to the game, no spacing, no plays run, and no one is on the same page. I saw Rajon Rondo have 3 or 4 good passes go out of bounds today, and one go whizzing right by some dude's head.

I'm kind of rooting for DJ to make the team. I don't know why, but I liked how he played at Maryland.

Wow, he shot the ball well. Interesting. Sounds like he was hogging a little though from what I've read from other posters.

Las Vegas, July 9 --Marcus Banks returned to the gym where he once honed his skills as a collegiate athlete. The former UNLV guard set a new summer league record with 42 points, but it wasn’t enough. Banks and the Suns were edged 93-89 by the Cavaliers in the nightcap at Thomas and Mack Center.

Banks' record-setting performance took flight in the final period, where Banks netted 23 points and nearly won the game for Phoenix. During several stretches of the final period Banks became a one man show.
“I just wanted to come out and have fun,” Banks said of his return. “I had a lot of family and friends here and I was glad I was able to put on a show.” Banks shot 68% from the field (13-19 FG), 80% from long range (4-5 3FG) and 86% from the charity stripe (12-14 FT).

“I want to prove to everyone that I can still play,” Banks said. “It’s been a rough road but I just keep on working hard. That’s all I can do.”

Forward Darius Rice led a balanced Cleveland attack which saw four Cavaliers score 15 or more points. Rice had 21 points, Dwayne Jones 18, PJ Tucker 16 and Shannon Brown added 15.
It was the Cavaliers improved to 2-1 with the win. Phoenix dropped to 0-1 in the 2007 NBA Summer League.

It looks like guys with a couple years of experience have a huge advantage over rookies in these games, but it is nice to see Banks help in the Suns plan to showcase him.

First of all, the idea that anybody is going to take banks off the Phoenix Suns hands based on Summer league performances is borderline ludicrous, especially since the draft is over. Still, it doesn't hurt.

he's decided to play shooting guard now, which isnt the point of him being in summer league.

I don't think that the Phoenix Suns necessarily envisioned Marcus Banks being a point guard of the future. I remember specifically one of the top guys talking about how he was really a combo guard like Barbosa... could dish out a few assists while being a big-time scorer and good defender.

Everybody loves records, but I think it is the Las Vegas league which is only a few years old. That's why Marco Belinelli was able to set the record just a few days ago.
