Just read this article on sportsline. It mostly repeats what we have already heard but the one thing it states is that according to sources inside the Suns, they are considering all options including letting Porter go. That's the first I have heard of that.

The article makes it sound like the Suns are resolved that they are not going to win with this group and are fielding offers for both Amare and Shaq and probably both. It sounds like the Suns have decided to rebuild.

If this is true, the Suns as we speak are collecting offers to go with the highest bidders probably for both Amare and Shaq before the deadline.

Here are some highlights.

The Suns brass has been in soul-searching mode for weeks, discussing a variety of solutions ranging from firing Porter to removing a big-ticket item from the payroll, most notably Amare Stoudemire or Shaquille O'Neal, sources have told CBSSports.com.

Here is another interesting part. Supposedly, Kerr sounds like he has the support of Sarver, should the right offer come.

The Stoudemire possibility is "real," a person close to the situation said, and the only thing standing in the way is "internal dissension." But once Kerr determines what the best offer is, he is expected to get the approval he needs.

I sure hope they fire Porter, regardless of the trade outcomes. Just make Gentry the coach and let Nash and Hill run the show the rest of the season.

It bugs me that steve nash is off limits, hes not going to want to stay here after his contract runs out anyways..Not that I dont want him to retire a sun...

this tells me that sarver is clearly pulling all the strings and he doesnt want his golden boy to be traded. The guy knows nothing about basketball.

but we all knew that already anyways.

Apparently Sarver at least knows enough to know the Suns were going nowhere before Nash arrived and probably will be going nowhere after he leaves. Please don't make me defend any aspect of Sarver's regime because he is the primary reason the Suns are in decline.

yeah he doesn't want to give up someone who was not that long ago the 2xMVP of the NBA. he knows nothing about basketball.

There's about 1000 reasons why Sarver is an idiot, but that's not one of them.

So who should sarver believe? Porter? Please, the guy has never coached a winning team, this is his first, sad. Should sarver believe Kerr, a green GM who has not impressed anyone with his many terrible choices? Or should sarver believe nash, the guy who turned around the franchise and won 2 MVP's with no bench to speak of, and NO BACKUP. I suspect that s No other PG in this time has had to deal with NO backup, and CP3 has not done well after pargo left. Most around the NBA think that Kerr's moves led to the downward spiral of the franchise. I have not read a single story defending Kerrs moves.

I was thinking about this and it could be that Nash has very little trade value and his contact is not that bad. Trading him at this point would be a slap in the face to a player that has given so much to the Suns.

3 steps to victory:

1. Don't trade anyone.
2. Fire Porter.
3. Hire Hubie Brown.

Trade Nash out to a contender & Amare wherever for comparable talent that can defend someone.... and picks if possible.
Fire Porter.
Hubie Brown? Are you serious?

I think Hubie Brown would strangle Stoudemire within 2 weeks of taking over.

I think Amare needs a good strangle.

As for Hubie, he has one of the highest IQs in the bball biz, preaches teamwork and defense, and is very respected in the bball world. If the team continues to underachieve, it would be easy to weed out who truly needs to go.

He has a huge mancrush on Barbosa and would use him MUCH more effectively than Porter is doing. He also wont tolerate lazy defense.

Plus he is like 200 years old and wouldn't require a long term or expensive contract.

The perfect "shot in the arm" for an ailing team.

I was thinking about those horrendous trades Chad Ford of ESPN mentioned the other day, however, I think trading Shaq for Jason Kidd (expiring contract) might actually work for the Suns except for their need for another big man. Amare would return to being the Suns primary weapon inside, the Suns get a taller and better defender that could rest and play beside Nash. Kidd and Nash could make a very could backcourt short term. Also the Suns would return to their running ways except with more defense in the backcourt. Maybe even the Suns prolong Nash's career by re-signing Kidd on a cheaper contract next season. I think the Suns and Kidd could kiss and make up.

I really like hubie, he coaches good help defense, something that porter is WORSE at than DA. Amare would be less of a problem defensively in a good help defense scheme as long as shaq wasnt on the floor. You just cant make up for the lack of pick and roll defense with amare and shaq on the front line at the same time. And the word is out in the NBA now, attack the suns in transition and they are just terrrible defensively on the front line. Shaq running and playing defense in transition is sad to watch, all kinds of guys go right by him to the hoop. I fear the suns will see alot more attacking shaq in transition, its very ugly.

That would be a disaster. Amare back as our primary big man would weaken our interior play. Pre Shaq the Suns were one of the worst paint teams in the NBA. Going back to running might sell tickets but gets us no closer to a title. No thanks.

Besides, if you don't get a big man in return for a trade including Shaq...it's pointless.

Just think about it. It grows on you. Sometimes you have to look at what you would have and not what you don't. DA would rip the skin off the basketball with such a team but alas he is gone.

I know the Suns would need another big man like Skinner but Porter would not know how to run it. Better yet, let Nash and Kidd run the offense. Maybe Kerr can tell Porter to just worry about defense.

I have thought about it and the only thing that would grow on me is this teams inability to defend anybody in the paint. It doesn't matter who coaches this team....Amare will never be a good defender.

Besides I do look at what we would have all the time. We would have a team on the right track if we built a solid foundation on defense and rebounding and worried about offense later.

The suns could do very well in the paint defensively with out shaq, just crowd the lane and give open shots to all the shooters and wa la, you have the terry porter suns. Stats look great in the paint(in the half court), gives up all kinds of 15-22 foot shots uncontested, and cant defend in transition.

You like the bobcats model I see. But they have larry brown as coach not a mediocre coach who has done his best(W-L) work with THIS team. THis is his high water mark so far, pretty bad.

I don't care who is coaching this team. You put Amare in there as your defensive center piece, the paint becomes a layup drill. Even if you could get great perimeter defenders and a good coach....nothing will ever change Amare's inability to defend the paint.

I really have never been a Larry Brown fan but yes I prefer that model over turning your team into a track racing no defense playing team any day of the week. I think it's easier to add offensive to your team then defense.

Exactly.

Trading a starting "5" for a backup "1"? So your starting "4" would once again become the starting "5", with no legitimate "4" to take his place?

And your new backup "1" (who has no jumper) would get playing time side-by-side at the "2"?

OMG, I think I'm going to have a stroke just thinking about that. John MacLeod would have an orgasm watching it. Hey, why not bring the Suns original Mr. Small Ball back to coach?

Now I think I'm going to have a heart attack. :pullhair:

So you like the Suns current prototype? Mouthing good defense won't win games. I say a good coach uses the talent he has to his advantage. I think the Suns should have kept the old offensive system and just tried to add good defensive players when available.
