Just saw it on the ticker on ESPN news. It says Phoenix Suns expected to trade JJ to Atlanta for Diaw and two first-round draft picks.

I was originally going to call BS when the first post said we were going to get Atlanta's MLE...

...cuz teams under the cap don't get the MLE (you don't need an exception to the cap if you aren't over the cap)...that's why Phoenix didn't get the MLE or LLE last year...

...but if YOU said you saw it...I believe it (especially since the last rumor didn't mention the MLE).

Damn. Those draft picks better not be protected way into the future, or I'll really be pissed.

And what does this do to the Amare signing?

Damn.

I honestly don't know how trade exceptions work, but that's what they could be talking about.

Send him packing.
After Suns coached him up, stood behind him every time his little confidence got shaken up he requests to go to another team? At this point anything we get is better that JJ.

I also wonder about the draft pick. I dont even know if they are both Atlanta's pick

I read on other boards that Hawks are owed a pick from the Celts that will be the worse of either the Lakers or Celts #1 pick next year. Both are supposed to have some protections, Lakers being top 10 protected

If we get Atlanta's unprotected #1 pick next year I think I will be able to swallow this trade. But as of right now, I hope this trade is not finalized or breaks down

If this trade goes down... makes it more likely Finley is coming back to the suns

Congrats Suns, you had the most wins in the regular season and a young team that continued to improve. What did you do in the next offseason? Completely blow it up. There better be some other very well thought out moves here. This reeks of penny pinching. I wonder what Amare thinks of this and the Suns commitment to winning?

I have no idea what to say. I'm in shock right now. Ten, years, we waited, ten flippin' years to become a legit title contender again, and they blow it up. I've been a die hard fan for 15 years, but at this very moment I just don't know if I can continue doing this, especially with an organization that does not seem to care about winning nearly as much as some of its fans do.

I don't think they planned this one. I think JJ just surprised everyone.

IF this is true this is extremely disappointing.

Given how the Suns have treated thier draft picks lately.

Plus the Suns have/had a chance NEXT YEAR.

Draft picks don't help us much.

The a big reason for JJ's value is his shooting. Diaw's problem has been that he can't shoot. :bang:

I can't see how this is a plus for the Suns except they save some money at the cost of the quality of this year's team.

Couldn't have said it better myself Chris. 93-94 offseason all over again. Management just can't wait to screw up a good thing. By the time any of these draft picks are ready to contribute our window will have closed.

This sucks. How do you lead the league in wins and then dismantle the team?

F U Joe. We have something special here in Phoenix, but you are too blind to see it. The money would be the same, so why not try and win a ring? I'm too angry to post anything intelligent or refined. So thanks for nothing Joe. Have fun rotting away in Atlanta. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

yes it sucks....but if anything i dont know if it was a product of penny pinching. the suns did what they could to ensure that they'd keep JJ.....but i have a feeling that things got a little ugly between JJ/Suns/JJ's Agent, and the suns decided that it wasnt worth it anymore.

well....this trade also makes me feel better about keeping Marion. i wish we could have kept JJ for a cheaper price, but it wasnt meant to be i guess.

i do have a feeling though that we wont be done this offseason. this trade will clear enough cap space to allow us to either sign Bell without using the MLE or sign a couple other guys while still keeping us under the cap. getting Fins will make JJax expendable i guess. and with hopefully three draft picks next summer, we might see one of them go along with JJax for someone.

we'll see though. as much as i wanted to keep JJ, i am almost relieved to see him go. i wont truely feel alright about this until i know for sure what we got for him. i want us to contend for a championhip next season, and the only way i see that happening is if we get either Childress or Smith along with Diaw.

I wonder if this goes down if the signing will be 6years/90+million the Suns max.

Does ATL want JJ for a $90 Million contract?

If we could somehow get Atlanta's trade exception (hopefully around mid-level) and sign a quality free agent. This trade might not be that bad (althought I dont like it too). It just depends upon the fact that we sign a good quality free agent that can help out the team in the short and long term

Here are few of the free agents that are still out there (I know some of them are RFA)

Eddy Curry // Tyson Chandler // Antione Walker // Vladimir Radmanovic // Earl Watson // Latrell Sprewell // Marko Jaric // GP // Reggie Evan // steve blake // darius songalia // dan dickau // zaza // damon jones // christian laetner // dikembe mutombo // darrell armstrong // brevin knight

If that money I wouldnt mind trying to go after some players like Vladimir // Earl Watson // Reggie Evans

Last year, what was really exciting was that we were a young team, and thinking of having a jj/amare combo for 10 years. W/ different pieces around this combo, during the 10 year run, to make the suns constant contenders.

Now what?

p.s.: thinking of all the picks we've given away now in the last two year's makes me even sicker. Man, I'm so pissed I'm gonna have to stop refering to the suns organization as we. :(

I'm afraid you are incorrect. Getting rid of JJ clears ZERO cap space. We offerred JJ the qualifying offer to keep him restricted, and we are over the cap. Amare's extension will keep us over the cap.

Actually, we maybe getting a large ass trade exception. That would be the equivalent of cap room. Of course I don't expect the foam finger wagging fool to use a 1/3 of that trade exception.

I just read on the Hawks board that we ARE GETTING Atlanta's Mid-level exception

I dont know if it is credible but it makes the trade much easier to swallow. All we have to do now is sign more quality free agents or split it signing Hunter and someone else

Amen, people can blame sarver and that's understandable because of what we had, but things just really developed into a cluster#### this year. We traded Q for kurt and that looked good, but now it's horrible since we lost JJ.

Who would have known JJ and his pissass agent would have gone into this much of a fuss over money when your in a team that has championship potential?

This just REALLY pisses me off because you see teams like the spurs where ginobilli and other members don't ask for much so that they can be the best and acquire championships. What do the suns get? A big hot steaming dump from JJ and his money grubbing hands.
