He wanted to leave because he felt disrespected over his offer, most likely brought to boiling point by his stupid agent only worried about his own money, affecting JJ's attitude.

Then sarver decided he wanted to play a little of his own ridiculous money saving bs in response, and it all got out of hand.

Screw JJ
Screw his agent
Screw sarver

Screw all of them for messing the dream up.

The spurs fans should always be greatful beyond comprehension that they haven't had to deal with anything like this these last 6 or so years. Instead they are too busy being classless uneducated morons running their mouths (sans a VERY select few of them).

I wish they weren't bandwagon losers and could really enjoy their team as real basketball fans instead of trashtalking kiddies who have no idea how the pendulum can swing.

Swing and hit you right in the balls.

Watching the Hawks game tonight just pissed me off. We should have at least either JJ or Horford. Going through this thread was fun, I was right on about JJ and Sarver. :self:

I don't see how the Suns were going to get Horford anyway. He was pretty well slotted at #3.

He didn't want to be here.

Not true at all, Sarver never had any intention of giving JJ max money.

Sarver came out and publicly said that he would match any offer for Johnson right after the season. This turned off every team with FA money including Cleveland who really wanted him to run with LeBron (JJ and King James are very tight off the court). So JJ's agent went to the Suns and asked for a max deal which of course Sarver balked at despite him promising JJ that he would take care of him if he proved himself.

So the agent went to the Hawks who were in complete disarray at this point and needed to make a PR move so in turn they gave him the max. Sarver and BC at this point claimed they would match so they could force a trade with Atlanta. Atlanta offered Josh Childress and pick(s) but BC really wanted Doris and the trade went down.

All JJ wanted was to get paid. The Suns reneged on their promise to do such so he followed the cash. If the Suns really did value him they simply would've matched the offer as he would have continued to play hard as he always has. This mistake by the Suns front office in my opinion almost certainly cost them an NBA Championship in 2006 and perhaps 2007.

I think the Suns went actually better with Diaw instead of JJ in 2006. Missing Amaré was huge, and JJ couldn't have filled the centre spot as good as Diaw that season.

I agree about 2007, though. A 61-win team would have gone to 68-70 and won it all with JJ in Diaw's place.

I agree the 2007 with Amare would've been better, but the competition in 2006 was so weak that I think having JJ would've gotten us over the hump. Seriously, the path through the NBA Finals that year was two bad Clippers and Lakers teams followed by the soft Mavs and an old Heat.

Thing is, we'll never know.

True. And sad. Wish we had the 2005 or 2007 or 2008 team for the 2006 playoffs again.

This is the wrong thread to bump. The damage was done when Sarver, against the advice from JC, refused to extend JJ the previous year when they were a mere 5 million apart over 6 years. What a terrible rookie mistake.

Since this was brought on by Atlanta's surprising performance, someone should also bump the Googs trade from that same year, the one where we gave away a pick that could have been Josh Smith, all so we could stay under the luxury tax.

Or maybe we should bump the other brilliant trade from that year, the one where we gave away a pick that would have been Andre Iguodala to save cap space. Cap space that was used on Q, who was then traded for Kurt Thomas, who was then traded for tax relief along with 2 more firsts, including a likely top 5 pick in 2010.

Bad decisions and bad trades compounding more bad decisions and bad trades. What could have been a champion with quality youth to give it some legs instead winds up being a 4 year run that will likely end with a thud. What a waste.
