Out of the 8 relevant drafts (counting from the KD trade forward through the 7 upcoming drafts), we have 4 first round picks and probably 5 second round picks compared to the 8 and 8 many teams have which is not as bad as it appeared even after the Beal deal. But our remaining picks have mostly been swapped or double swapped reducing their value to the absolute minimum. I don't see how that situation is anything to boast about.

Yes, we've regained a little but our pick situation is still close to worthless. Under our new ownership, we've found ways to thrive even with limited draft capital so I am far less concerned about our draft situation than I was a few months ago but our hands are still tied.

All told, we have fewer ways to improve than most of the league. How limiting that will be remains to be seen given that we have an owner apparently willing to accept risks and freely spend where most others are cutting back.
Keep in mind we are over the second apron so our picks are supposed to start at pick 30 for first rounders. That limits us the most potentially.

The odds are better at finding a player in the 1st round but I think teams can improve their odds at finding a 2nd round player or undrafted free agent with scouting and player development.

The Heat have shown that it can be done.
Player development is significantly undervalued. I am convinced that there are a lot of guys out there who could have had significant value if they had been developed in a quality way.

Every team thinks that and the odds are the odds. Having said that acquiring a G-League team is definitely a step in that direction.

I don't believe every team thinks that way.

An individual team can improve their chances of finding a hidden gem by persistently looking for them. Some teams put more effort into it than others and increase the odds of finding one.

Applying the same odds to every team is not fair except as a generality.

OKC has 20 first round picks, can they keep them all? They will go somewhere.
They should be third party in a lot of trades going forward. They could just keep getting those picks reset to later dates if they wanted.

please enlighten me @Covert Rain how it an "oof" to think we'll trade those 2nd round picks this year? We're talking about 2nd round picks, after all, and if we want to use those trade exceptions then we'll need to deal some of those picks with the exception to make it happen.
Help me, what does oof mean by the usage on a post?

I was aiming to figure that out as well. I have done it in the past for bad takes like if someone made a post saying something like "Ayton has clearly lived up to being the #1 pick from a loaded draft class". I'd consider that an "oof" type post. I also view it as sort of a "doh" type response, not sure if that helps explain it at all or muddies the waters more.

I don't use the term "oof" a lot because I think the meaning can be misconstrued. I view it as similar to using the word "ouch."

Depends on the context of the post. Could be a sign of dismay, surprise or a general feeling of here we go again. It can even be used as a general agreement with the sentiment or action if the person brings up something they can't believe, and you are agreeing. Clear right? I am with Main, probably shouldn't use it if you have to explain to someone why it was used. You want to hear something funny? When OOF first came out it used to mean Out of Office before it was turned into slang. LOL.

I do it not about the person posting, but sometimes to amplify the thing posted. Like someone posts about someone doing something stupid. I will "oof" that person who is doing the stupid thing.

Oh, yeah, I didn’t mean to imply it is used in reference to the poster.

More like “Remember when we could have extended Joe Johnson early and for well below the max?”

“Oof”

Cam Payne made this post thanking the Suns org and fans. Classy guy. Still didn't like the salary dump. Glad he's happy and found a nice landing spot in Milwaukee.

Yeah, like Mikal and CamJ, he's the type of former Suns player I hope succeeds elsewhere.

Yeah, honestly I was a little bummed that we let him go. I wouldn't have necessarily wanted to depend on him as like our third guard next year. But as a fourth guard option, he would have been quality depth.
