This was a deliberate acquisition looking beyond Kevin Durant. It gives you a one two punch even post Durant. It pretty much guarantees that none of those picks that convey are going to be high ones. Getting Beal makes the KD trade even better because essentially it makes the KD trade about the players involved and not so much the picks.
Im sure BKN is not happy with the trade :p

One of the weird things to me is that so much of the media was fawning over the suns after they made the Durant trade. A LOT of the media was saying we were favorites.

And now we’ve gone and upgraded from an ancient CLEARLY declining Paul and useless shamet to an in his prime Beal and a promising young defensive guard and now we stink. The media is full of idiots.

The talking heads keep saying that the offense will be great, but where is the D? So. Durant is a great defender. Booker is a very good defender now. Not sure what kind of defender Beal is. Vogel is a defensive coach.

What we need is rebounding and defense in the paint. Frankly, Ayton has shown he is very capable of that when focused on it. We can trade him for a rim protector and rebounder (Gobert or something like that) or maybe Vogel can convince him to focus on that. Obviously the relationship between Ayton and Monty was broken. I wonder how that impacted Ayton's performance.

We do need lots of depth for the regular season. I would spend the entire season developing the young talent and keeping the minutes for Booker, Durant, and Beal low. They should play in every game (rest games have not proven effective) but keep minutes as close to 30 as possible. Develop Okogie, and the other young colts and see if we cannot find some gems.

All we have to do is get into the playoffs. 1-4 in the west is fine. I am not worried about seeding beyond that.
My two cents. Monty's defense sucked. Just like I believe the Cardinals defense will improve so will the Suns defense. Coaching matters.

@Chris_Sanders

You are correct, the Suns have a 5 million trade exception per the above video.
That cannot be used to sign a player, right? It can only be used in trade (or sign and trade). So, we would have to use it for a player whose team is trying to move him, to sign a FA. Trade exceptions are so limited that it is hard to use them for real value.

I wonder if he was referring to a $5 MLE? The Suns did have a trade exception from the Saric trade. He sounded like the Suns could use this $5 million to sign a player.

I don't think they now get the MLE under the new CBA. Not sure. I have not had time to really look at the new CBA. Not sure if I care that much to even try to understand it.

The new CBA is much too complicated. The only trade exception the Suns have is from the trade of Saric.

While Beal and KD both have health or injury concerns it’s nice now even if one get hurt or misses games you still have Book and one of them in the floor having an extra scoring star cannot be overlooked! Or even using them in proper rotation so that not playing crazy minutes but always have some legit scorers on the floor is huge! Excited to see how the team fills out. I’m sort of done with Ayton I don’t think you can coach heart and if CP3 Book Durant none of those guys could get him to put forth the effort no one will. You either want to be the best or you got paid and just in your own mind think your Dominayton, dude is delusional imo would rather see a solid rebounding defender at center, not a guy who doesn’t know how to dunk and wants to shoot more 3s…

Why can’t we be well balanced? I remember when we were rich in PG and had IT, Goran and Bledso..

I'd prefer a combo guard approach or better yet, point guard by committee. Durant can even facilitate the offense.
That's exactly what they are going to do IMO. Point Book is here to stay which might be good but also scary. The good news is that nobody is going to be pressuring our guys that often in the back court any longer. Seeing teams do it constantly to make CP3 give up the ball was frustrating to say the least. They are not going to be able to do that much with Book/Beal on the court unless they want to get burned in transition.

I would really love to see this team up their transition buckets.

So. Who is our pg? Is it Book? I think it is.
One of the ESPN guys on NBA Live said he thinks Cam Payne will get the nod to run with Beal, Book, and KD. Throw in a Center/big who can run, and he sees the Suns pushing the ball on offense.

God I hope not. That makes for a small ball lineup. We were not doing great on the boards last year for stretches. This lineup will get eviscerated on the boards.

If we want to run and gun (at times) I can see Payne playing with the starters - but I think our best chances (especially in the playoffs) will be running a bigger more able to rebound set with KD, Book, and Beal all playing guard/small forward at the same time - I believe I just got a ***** typing that

We don't need a PG - Book/KD/Beal are all above average distributors.

I agree, but I like to always have extra point guards in my back pocket. The same with power forwards.

I like guards that can play the 1-2, even the 3 in a pinch. Power forwards can play the 4-5. I like versatility.

This is ESPN of course, so they don't really know anyone other than Booker or KD. That's just the dumbest thing i've heard from ESPN today.

I dont think its much of an issue anymore with cp3 gone. Biggest thing was pace and production from cp3, Beal is younger and won't be pressured full court. We have 3 big time players who can facilitate with Payne as our fourth ball handler. Maybe one more back up like Carter would do.

The Suns have plenty of speed and shooting but I want another power forward that can bang inside and fill the Aaron Gordon role.

Suns need bigger options at the 4 than Craig and Crowder.
