I was listening to NBA radio yesterday and Sam Mitchell, who apparently coached Ayton as a 14-15 year old compared him to KG. He said he should be played at PF because “that’s where he wants to play.” That immediately placed all the media in the proper context for me: they really aren’t that smart. They don’t have deep knowledge on any team or any player unless they are a local guy, and even then I question their intelligence until they prove themselves smart. Like Eddie Johnson is very smart. Lots of other people on nba radio are not.

Once again, a national writer fails to understand how badly Chris Paul disappeared, or was not present due to injury for the suns in the playoffs

Not just his playoff disappearances. He couldn't even be relied upon to bring up the ball under pressure. Even without pressure he'd cross half-court close to the 8 second clock and would waste 10+ seconds on the shot clock before initiating the offense.

Yes, that was so irritating. And you saw how much more effective the Suns were against the Nuggets when Cam Payne was getting the ball up before Denver had a chance to get their Defense fully set.

There appears to be a better chance that Chris Paul ends up on the Clippers than the Lakers.

Had the Lakers pulled it off, it would've been overwhelming praise.

Imagine how Vogel feels. The Lakers were praised for trading their depth for Westbrook and we saw how that played out. Many more questions there as well since they dealt a few good pieces that helped them in KCP, Kuzma, and someone else for Russ.

He is 29 years old. When the contract finishes he will be 33. That time frame as far as age is not bad at all. Beal is here for the next four years, so is Book. We have committed to build a team around those two guys. Things could be worse.
These are supposedly the prime years for an NBA player.

Yup. And for all the teeth gnashing about losing first round picks when KD is long in the tooth, this team with still have two superstars in book and Beal at that time, thereby likely devaluing even the 2027 pick we convey (book will be 30 and Beal 34, that’s not ancient). The 2029 pick may be the only pick that’s better than somewhere in the 20s.

Also, talking about the post-KD era when people are lamenting the loss of half of our draft picks, having book and ishbia’s wallet is going to be huge.
Not to mention his wallet will allow him to go even further over the cap/2nd apron and eat bigger penalties to re-sign Torrey, Jock and anyone else already under a Bird contract.

The talking heads keep saying that the offense will be great, but where is the D? So. Durant is a great defender. Booker is a very good defender now. Not sure what kind of defender Beal is. Vogel is a defensive coach.

What we need is rebounding and defense in the paint. Frankly, Ayton has shown he is very capable of that when focused on it. We can trade him for a rim protector and rebounder (Gobert or something like that) or maybe Vogel can convince him to focus on that. Obviously the relationship between Ayton and Monty was broken. I wonder how that impacted Ayton's performance.

We do need lots of depth for the regular season. I would spend the entire season developing the young talent and keeping the minutes for Booker, Durant, and Beal low. They should play in every game (rest games have not proven effective) but keep minutes as close to 30 as possible. Develop Okogie, and the other young colts and see if we cannot find some gems.

All we have to do is get into the playoffs. 1-4 in the west is fine. I am not worried about seeding beyond that.

This was a deliberate acquisition looking beyond Kevin Durant. It gives you a one two punch even post Durant. It pretty much guarantees that none of those picks that convey are going to be high ones. Getting Beal makes the KD trade even better because essentially it makes the KD trade about the players involved and not so much the picks.

It wasn't Monty Williams that DeAndre Ayton ignored, left hanging, or abandoned entirely, it was his teammates

We just don't know for sure what went on between coach, player, and team. I am willing to see what the new situation might bring.

I like this deal for the Suns.

1. They moved on from Paul and that was a necessity.
2. Booker can be the primary ball handler with this setup and the offense doesn't have to stall out at any point in the game with 3 playmakers.
3. They needed more firepower vs. the Nuggets and depth wasn't a difference maker.
4. They could still deal Ayton for good depth and defense
If Labron can bring the ball up, im sure Book, KD & Beale can handle it also

Bucher is a clown - all these media pundits taking shots at the Suns and their depth when the other option was to waive CP and get some low level FA for about 12M. If Book, KD and Beale were on the Lakers or Knicks the media would be screaming Title. Typical Phoenix hate
