Today's Game

Monday, 1:30pmat PistonsTV: NBATV, UPN 45 Preview

We have had a rough road trip and need to get back on track. With Nash still out and we are playing against a tough team not sure if we can end the loosing today.

Early game today.

Sure would be nice to salvage something from this road trip and get back on the winning track.

It has to start on defense for the Suns. When they are playing defense it leads to easy baskets.

On offense I would work the two man game between JJ and Amare and make sure Amare doesn't go more than a possession or two without touching the ball. Move the ball and move without the ball.

Suns are going to have to toughen up a little. Teams will continue to go after them physically until they show they can overcome it. Detroit will be no different even though they are ailing a little themselves.

I expect to see Steven Hunter getting more minutes today.

I wonder about his offensive production without Steve Nash though. Hunter seemed to really get it going when receiving passes around the hoop but wont get to many without Steve's passing skills.

Pistons have won five straight and I can hardly imagine us to get a W tonight.

Nevertheless: GO SUNS!!!

And no.13 for MVP! ;)

Well Hunter has only played 5 minutes :( The only run the Suns went on was when Hunter and Amare were in the game. Looks like Mike's skill ball will never include a true Center.

Unlovely, unattractive, ill-favored, unappealing, homely, unsightly, disagreeable, repugnant, uuuuu-gly: Orange.

I knew Nash is invaluable, and guess we're seeing just how much, but it almost looks like he took everyone's game-brains AND their speed off the court with him.

Right now we're lacking confidence, intensity, and hustle. Not to mention offensive rebounding (0 second chance points in the first half). This game is really hard to watch.

How bad do they actually look? From the stats it doesn't look like they are playing bad just getting out shot from 3 point range.

A Nash-less Suns drops from an elite team to below .4 team. They weren't even competing. There was no energy, no teamwork, no direction, no NOTHING.

Was Pistons that good or we sucked, period?

D'Antoni better prefers the team to play without Nash. This is so embarrasing.

They didn't even look this bad last season(most of the time). It's like they play worse without Nash, obviously, but I think they are having an extra slump on top of it. They have also been managing to catch all of the past four teams at the peak of hot streaks.

Amare plus the bench F/Cs all got decent rebound numbers given the minutes they were in... especially Vroman :) That's a good sign at least that they were going for the boards. I hope Nash plays in the SA game I get to see.

Oh and I especially like specific game threads because I can ask questions of games I don't get to see. Except the pregame stuff is kinda silly:)

How did the bench look defensively? Offensively they layed an egg I guess. MAn Lampe with 2 shots in 4 minutes. It's like "you betta gimme the ball and when you do you know what'll happen." I hope he at least looks for an open man if he has a contested shot.

It's pretty obvious that this team needs someone better than Barbosa as the backup point guard. Frankly I would rather see Hunter in there instead of Barbosa, and if D'Antoni wants to go small he can use CJ. I would rather see more of them than much or any of Barbosa.

There was a stretch in the first half where I thought Eddie Johnson was going to run onto the court and grab Amare Stoudemire and tell him to box out Ben Wallace. They were getting second and third shots on almost every possession for a while.

Personally I'm not totally disappointed with these losses. There's been little doubt in my mind since the beginning of the season that without Steve Nash this team would look like last year's team. The Utah game was just bad. Otherwise these are not games I expected them to win without Nash.

It's back to Earth for now.

One thing for sure - D'Antoni is making a mighty strong case for NBA Coach of the Year -

For Steve Nash.

The guys looked clueless much of the time. Might be fine to 'let them play' when they have the 'coach on the floor' but otherwise, I'm not seeing them (players or coaching staff) adjust to the changed circumstances very well. It almost felt like D'Antoni was saying, "well, we can afford to lose three or four while Nash is down, rather than come up with something that fits this cast of characters."

It's a little silly to say they just have to get back to playing their game, when Nash is obviously what MAKES that style work; without him, the coaches might want to start thinking and chipping in during the game.

One of the few games in which I had to listen instead of watch. Well, I turned it off midway through the 3rd, because Al McCoy and Tim Kempton sounded as frustrated as I was. If there was ever a time to go road rage, that was it.

From the sounds of it (and McCoy pointed this out), Wallace was just abusing Amare on the glass. Basically saying Amare hadn't put a body on him all game long.

During these past 4 games, the squad on the court (who I don't even recognize) has simply fallen sorry for themselves. Boo hoo. Wake the hell up and ball like you've been doing. No one cares that Nashty is out. All they want to do is prove that the fast start was a fluke. And, they're doing a pretty good job of it.

- JJ is once again turning into an enigma. Only effective when he's getting touches. Has been doing absolutely NOTHING w/o the ball.

- Q can't decide if he's Dennis Scott or Charles Barkley.

- Amare is showing the frustration of not getting enough touches. But, he's alos got to do his part on the glass. That's not happening.

- Barbosa has regressed. To be honest, he simply is not good enough to be playing for a 31-8 team. No way in hell do I want him out on the court. I rarely see him use his quickness on D. He's either lost it, or hasn't recovered from his sickness and/or injuries.

- Rather than a PG, the Suns biggest need is PJ Brown.

I think it's time Q comes off the bench and we put Hunter in there to start. If anything, just so the box score shows someone actually scores off the bench.

This is unacceptable. So what if Nash is out. All these guys are pro ballers and should be made accountable for this brand of uncompetitive basketball. Mike D, doesn't have his on court coach now, so it's up to him to actually coach from the sidelines... "Just push the ball", ain't gonna cut it now without Nash.
