Might as well put this one up early. The game isn't until thursday but might as well get some dissusion going early.

the pistons have won 12 out of 13 and 7 overall and their D seems to be back. This is going to be really tough.

Hope the Suns can prove their style can win in the playoffs. This game will be a real test. The Pistons are trying to improve there position for the playoffs and so are the Suns. Nash will be back and everyone should be ready for this game.

I would prefer to save him at least one more game. What do we gain by beating the Pistons? The way they play, I don't want to see him getting beat-up, knocked to the floor, etc.

;) We still have a theoretical chance to sign Payton. Then we'll dominate them via our backcourt.

The latest I read is that it's more than a theoretical chance. He wants to return to Boston, but Boston isn't all that interested. That basically leaves Miami and Phoenix as the front runners.

man - I REALLY think we need this game to be a W - I read that before the Mavs game we had lost 8 of our last 9 versus teams with winning records - injuries or not - that just flat out sucks. Since we were ON FIRE at 31-4 - we are just 12-9 since - would be nice to get a W against the DEFENDING CHAMPS who are on a roll right now. We need a quality W (the Mavs was a GREAT win - but I don't put them in the same category as Seattle, San Antonio or even Miami).

Let's go boys - start the late season run to glory! Also a good test to see how we run against a big, physical team - the kind of team we'll have to beat in the playoffs.

it'll only be a good test if we've got nash back.

agreed - btw - I thought the Hawks had to already have bought Payton out in order to meet the deadline for him to sign with someone else and be eligible to be on their playoff roster.

If we sign Payton - I would believe that we had an absolute chance THIS YEAR to win the title - his depth and ability to run the point and move the team would be huge for Nash down time. Right now - to me - we're still along shot - but with Payton - he would tip the scales for us - AT LEAST over everyone but SA in the west. Seattle scares me a little right now, as does Memphis, although I have been VERY impressed by our play without Steve the last three games.

where did you read that? i thought that Payton and the Celts were in talks of an extention before he got traded. that's quite a 180 degree turn on the guy.

i personally would love to have him here. but one of his criteria might be the assurance of being resigned....which would leave us out of the picture.

the one thing that i think would keep him from accepting a backup role wouldnt be the respect thing, but the money thing. being sent to the bench as a backup does diminish a players value somewhat...and if Payton is looking to start for some team next season he could be losing out on $1 or $2 million dollars. that's something to think about.

if its between us and Miami....each team has its own strengths. in Miami, he'd have his buddy Shaq. he may or may not start there either. additionally, Miami would have to release ANOTHER player in order to sign him. remember, they had to drop Person in order to get Zo. so they may be off the list.

we on the other hand have amare, who could be Payton's Kemp for the rest of the year. he's also near home (which i dont think is that much of a factor concidering its only for 2 or 3 months). he'd also take on a sort of leadership role with the team because of our lack of age, and his experience.

Pistons rolled the Blazers last night - with the win the Pistons improved to 3-0 on the West Coast swing and 36-19 for the season with their 13th victory in 14 games.

I am concerned about the Suns trying to get Nash back too soon. The memories of KJ's ever present hammy problems plague me. Hamstring problems can nag for so long unless you let them heal.

Anyone remember Magic Johnson pulling his just jogging down the court in the finals (late 80's I think).

This could be a big deal. I hate to say this, but we really need to get Gary Payton in.

I think I heard somewhere that the Pistons have the best record in the NBA since the January 1st.

From Steve Kerr's High Five

2. Phoenix Suns (43-14) – The Suns must be thrilled to not only win two out of three without the injured Steve Nash but also roll up big points without him. Remember, the first time Nash missed games, Phoenix lost four straight and looked dazed and confused, barely putting up 80 points a night.

4. Detroit Pistons (35-19) – Finally, the Pistons look like themselves. They've won 12 of 13 and they've done it in Detroit fashion. They're holding opponents to 88 points a game and locking teams up in the fourth quarter. The world champs are making their move.

This will be a tough test for the suns, rebounding is going to be very important in this game. Someone will have to try and stay with Hamilton who runs from the start until the end of every game, Barbosa will be in for a lot of minutes to guard him I would think. I will be watching the hand checking to see if the refs call fouls on that this game. The suns will obviously try to outscore the Pistons, so not sure how much we will see Hunter tonight, and hopefully Q gets off early.

I actually like the Suns in this game. They should come out with something to prove, so maybe we'll see the same kind of tough-mindedness the Suns usually save for road games. Also, the Pistons haven't seen the Suns in action yet (they played the imposters in Detroit), so they might be in for a little surprise.

I read somewhere that the line was even (no points for either team), but I didn't bother to check up on that.

I added a few Pistons links to the links thread. The links work, but I'm not especially familiar with any of those boards, so proceed at your own risk.

Most of us have noticed that the refs stopped calling hand check fouls and holding like they did early in the season, so it is not a shock to find the Suns not doing as well while the Pistons are thriving.
