Again, when we come up with these trade scenarios we should probably start with asking why the other team would do it. That's a horrible trade for Cleveland. If Illgauskus will be in the last year of his contract you will be quite valuable this summer and next year to teams making a run at the playoffs/championship.

I'm not sure exactly what trade value Diop has, but I don't think it's a negative.

Slin, you are willing to throw big money and Marcus Camby but Illgauskus is too injury prone to take with one season left on his contract? I don't think that makes a lot of sense.

Marcus Camby is much better than Ilgauskas in my opinion.

And I don't see why we would even trade for Ilgauskas if we only want his contract, we would want to resign him and we would sacrifice our capspace this offseason.

Well, I think the Suns would only make that deal (which Cleveland would never make in the first place) if there are other free-agent plans fell through. Let's face it. After Kobe Bryant this season's free-agent class is very weak. In fact if they can't get him (I'm not sure that would disappoint me much) it might be a better idea to sign some decent role players to small, reasonable contracts. That way they could be a major player in the trade market and depending on what they did with Joe Johnson in a much better free-agent market in 2005.

Yes, it was possible. Everything is possible.
But that was very very close to the impossible.

Come on, hcsilla, don't be such a tool. I meant "permitted." The question originally had to do with how the trade exception could be used. I was just explaining what its value could have been in a hypothetical scenario.
