It is NOT a weak QB class. There is no clear top QB but they all have great potential.

Fair enough. I still don't want a QB drafted this year, let Skelton develop and get the vet FA.

You say 5th best. I say Mallett will be THE best QB of this draft. No one knows who will be the best QB of this draft yet. Your statement is just plain incorrect. It should read the 5th drafted QB.

Time will tell. I would say that all the pundits have raved about Mallet with his FB knowledge and arm. I also know he can't walk and chew gum and has HUGE off field issues.

love the brooks reed pick but maybe also ayers is not bad at all..he didnt have big stats in terms of sacks just because he was playing OLB in 4-3 defense, i heard he could be more productive in 3-4

Where does that come from? The off field stuff I can understand but I haven't heard anyone describe him as bumbling, uncoordinated or stupid.

If anything most people say he is "football smart" and knows how to move IN the pocket.

Did I hear Mallet was a coach's son?

I was not implying he is stupid but not very athletic. Runs slow and has trouble moving quickly in short spaces. He has a fantastic arm and football smarts. He has gone to anger management classes and there are a ton of rumors about very poor off field behavior. These rumors must be more then just that or he would have been drafted by now. I don't want a head case as a QB on my team.

Both Kiper & McShay have Rudolph going to the Cardinals in their round 2 mock.

FWIW Kiper has Mallett going to the Seahawks and McShay has him going to Oakland.

It appears DJ and I are the only ones who think Acho is a good pick in the second.

I would take Acho before Ayers. Please cross him off our board Graves. He's not a pass rusher!!

I looked at a couple mocks and it seems as if Justin Houston has fallen off the draft boards. He was nowhere to be found in the entire 2nd round. I guess those failed drug test rumors are true and he's falling like a rock. I really don't want Brooks Reed. I say Rudolph. You would be getting the #1 player at a position of need. Then Acho in round 3, just like my mock :).

I really don't think Acho is there in round 3. Value? Mid to late round two so it the Cardinals want him they either take him "too high" or trade down.

Does Nostradamus Gosselin do a 2nd round mock?

Well neither Kiper or McShay have Acho in round 2 and have us selecting Rudolph at #38 so you may be right.

I think they should wait to see if Sheard makes it to them and if not, trade down and take Acho.

The Sonoran Jungle - West
2nd round Houston or Ayers
3rd/4th Virgil Green
3rd/4th Taiwan Jones
3rd/4th Martez Wilson

Sound attractive to me in the next 2 rounds, I don't really get the hype for Reed on this board. None of the scouting reports about him are very flattering and describe him as:
-dependable
-high motor
-stiff
-uncreative
-slow
-unathletic
-low ceiling
-modest college production

Dude is a natural fit at SOLB spot. And most pundits disagree with your assessment having him no later than the 40th best overall. Some had him in the first round. And he can bring constant pressure.

The one thing I worry with him is injury, because he plays with abandon.

Awesome thread gentlemen, I am trying to stop being bitter, and a big baby, and enjoy the draft.

Yet, I have put no effort into this offseason, so I know very little (I mean more than usual :D ).

Again, great thread, but I still don't have a clue who the pick should/could/would be.

Love Marcus Cannon, but didn't know about the lymphoma, that sucks, cause he would be my pick at this point. I am also surprised at the run on offensive linemen at the back half of the 1st round. My bet was a reach on a pass rusher or two, and getting a guy like Sherrod, or Costanzo.

My two favorite offensive linemen left are John Moffitt, and Joseph Barksdale which are borderline reaches at the top of the second round.

Edit: I wouldn't mind seeing Stefen Wisniewski,C picked at #2. I see he was able to put a little weight on, and at 6'3" and 313lbs we would be a fine OC in the NFL, and we need one.

Sidenote: Always hated looking at the 2nd and 3rd round picks cause they fluctuate so much.

Of course the NEED is in the pass rush, but is there anyone left that is not a project player ? I have a hard time taking "project players" before the third round, and even then I'd rather seen them taken in the 4th or later.

Brooks Reed, Arz - looks like a player but the Cardinals will have to spend the time transitioning him to OLB.

Same thing goed for Sam Acho, and the rest.

So, where does that leave you ? QB ? Kapernick is the only QB I would hope the Cardinals would entertain at #38. I don't think if Leinart wasn't well received in AZ, that Mallet would be any better, probably worse.

I like the thinking behind Twain Jones, and his speed, but seriously, we are a passing team, and have 3 good RB's. We already have problems getting Wells on the field. Plus you have to think about whether a player from Eastern Washington can step up to the next level.

After that ? Maybe Kyle Rudolph, TE, but even he has some red flags (injury concerns).

So, I guess through that rambling my pick is: Stefen Wisniewski,C

Bowers, knee or no -- is a horrible fit for a 3-4. Cant play linebacker.

Ayers can rush the passer, but I have been comparing him to Dansby -- all around player.

Martez Wilson -- again, not a pure pass rusher. Think James Farrior rather than James Harrison.

Dontay Moch: #38 feels a bit high, but this is a pass rusher, but one based purely on speed around the edge. He is described as "straight line"

I get the Cards need a pass rusher -- but i would hate to simply take the "best" pass rusher at #38 and pass on a much better all around linebacker

That wouldn't surprise me in the least. Though another 16 spots still seems a long way to fall: I wonder if they trade up.

The problem with taking Ayers is we already have a similar - and better - player on the team in D Washington.

They could do worse than him. Plug him in a LG and leave him for 10 yrs.

What do you guys think of Ben Ijalana, Villanova?

Hot and Cold on the guy.

I take Stefen Wisniewski over him because Wisniewski is a center who can play guard, and we have a need, IMO, at both those positions. Granted we have some issues at OT, but I like Jeremy Bridges enough that I can live with him there as depth.

As for tackle, in the 3rd round if Joseph Barksdale is there, I hope the Cardinals jump all over him.

OLB please. Sheard, Reed, or Houston...in that order of preference.
