Tell me this isn't the worst stretch of 10 first rounders ever:

From the 1999 first round:

20 Ebenezer Ekuban Cowboys DE North Carolina
21 L.J. Shelton Cardinals T Eastern Michigan
22 Lamar King Seahawks DE Saginaw Valley State
23 Antoine Winfield Bills DB Ohio State
24 Reggie McGrew 49ers DT Florida
25 Antwan Edwards Packers DB Clemson
26 Fernando Bryant Jaguars DB Alabama
27 Aaron Gibson Lions T Wisconsin
28 Andy Katzenmoyer Patriots LB Ohio State
29 Dimitrius Underwood Vikings DE Michigan State

Ekuban sucks. Shelton is average. King was a total bust. Winfield is a solid starter (only real "hit" of this group). McGrew never ever stepped on the field. Edwards is a dime back. Bryant starts but is nothing special. Gibson has been on 4 teams. Katzenmoyer sucked then got hurt. Underwood.....jesus.

Drafting.....what a science!

I rate LJ and Bryant a little higher than you do, even though both underachieve at times, but WOW that is a terrible 10!

Even if you consider LJ Shelton and Bryant to be "good" instead of "average", it's still an amazingly bad stretch of 10 picks.

Oh man, that's pretty sad. Thank god we drafted at the top of that list!

I thought I read somewhere that the Cardinals came within an inch of drafting Katz...but then again...I think NEM said that so it is wrong...dead wrong.

edit: If Katzenmoyer came out the year before this, he would have been a top 10 pick. People thought he was the greatest since sliced bread, but his last year in college he really dogged it

Ryan, you're 100% right. it was widely reported at the time that it took Bob Ferguson until the last second to talk Vince Tobin out of drafting Katzenmoyer. Tobin wanted him badly. There was a quote directly in the Republic.
