im probably the only person on here without cable, found it a waste of money and went rabbit ears + netflix. Rabbit ears works great but i quickly realized, regular tv SUCKS now. Nothing but CSI crap and reality garbage. I dont watch much tv besides football so no biggie but nice to have something to watch

Terranova looks like it could possibly be good, mostly because everything else sucks but im excited to at least have some kind of SHOW on in the evenings.

Hmmm.

Kind of looks cool. However when a show is so over hyped like this one has been I just have a gut feeling that it will suck.

I don't know... I might check it out. I'm a sucker for scifi shows.

I'll check it out, but my expectations are low...and if it doesn't grab me right away I'm probably dropping it (although I'm glad I stuck through 3/4 of a crappy alphas season because the last few set up a second season quite well, IMO...but that's the difference between a summer and fall series--there's too much other stuff to watch in the fall to pit up w mediocrity).

It's funny you should say that. Our TV tastes seem to be similar in many respects but I feel the exact opposite here. The fall shows, specifically the major network fall shows leave much to be desired. I'm much fonder of the summer shows and the split season shows.

Like you, I'm going to give Terra Nova a try but unless it's truly horrible I'll give it several episodes even though I don't have very high hopes.

Trying to watch it now. It's not awful, but I can't see investing in it. In terms of "strangers in a strange land" stories, this falls well below, say, Stargate: Atlantis. I don't think that's a terribly high bar to achieve, but it's not there. Acting is OK, the FX look real good, but the storyline is very thin, and I haven't seen a single compelling character in what must be the largest cast for a single show on broadcast TV.

The family dynamic really, really sucked. The new world type of a place and the intrigue was fun. I'll stick with it and hope the family angle improves in a few episodes.

Good call. If they think this show is going to exist because of CGI action sequences with dinosaurs, this show won't make it to spring season.

I thought it was decent. I think they should have showed little more of the world they left and how they screwed it up.

That was the worst thing Ive spent 2 hours of prime time on. That belongs of SyFy, or maybe network TV has gotten so beat up by all the cable based original programming ratings-wose they figured, "what the hell" and tried something WAY out there. The CGI was good, but nothing I havent seen before. The characters, the writing, every stereotype, BLECH. I was rooting for the dinos the whole time...

I suppose it could live for awhile on its CGI and battle sequences, but unless they fix the screenplays PRONTO, it wont survive long enough for the actors to find their characters. Good lord, didnt anyone else feel that EVERY character and interaction had been done to death a million times over? I think Ill just got buy the Land of the Lost box set...

I watched it. I found it entertaining enough to see what happens over the next couple of episodes. I think they they did a good enough job of setting up what was going on. Left enough questions to keep me coming back for more.

Overall I thought the CGI was kind of weak but considering it's a TV show it wasn't that bad. I'm thinking this is geared towards families with older kids. Hence why all of the stereotypical characters and plot lines.

I'll give it a few more episodes to see if it grows on me or not. At the least it gave me an excuse to block my wife from watching The Sing Off.

It's what I was afraid of: not bad enough to make me take it off the DVR, but not good enough to really compel me to want to watch.

I'm in limbo here, people!

I'll watch again next week, but if I don't find myself watching the "next week on Terra Nova" clips afterwards because I'm curious, I'm totally out.

I guess what I mean is there are more Fall shows to weed through by volume. I think maybe the summer shows have a higher instance of grabbing my attention (this summer was great with Suits, Necessary Roughness, Warehouse 13, Eureka and even Alpahas), but I didn't find myself overwhelmed with the sheer number of them. In the fall I have to make some choices; I can't possibly watch all of the new shows I think might interest me.

Well, that I understand. I have two DVR's in my living room (the Tivo holds 200 hours of HD) so I have plenty of room for TV shows. My problem is that I still have probably 80 hours of episodes of shows from last fall because I've been unmotivated to watch any of them. All my summer shows have already been watched and I'm sitting here waiting for more of them.

from everything I've heard this sucker's a product of death by over-development.

they've been working on the pilot alone for the better part of two years, blown out entire writing staffs, reshot the pilot a couple times, recast leads, etc. etc.

still curious to watch it at some point this week though.

I'm going to watch it also but I'm convinced it's going to do the one thing that drives me insane with TV shows and Movies. I am so sick of them creating conflict or ratcheting up the tension by having one of the "good guys" do something incredibly stupid. Falling Skies (and Walking Dead) would have been nothing more than soap operas if they hadn't used this technique and I can't help but believe there is a better way. If I wanted to watch stupidity I'd leave the TV on ESPN.

See, that would drive me crazy. I'm borderline OCD when it comes to my DVR. I like keeping it clean; sometimes that compulsion makes it feels like a job watching TV!

It does drive me crazy. We (my wife and I) are completists and we never throw anything away. We've brought that same thinking to the digital age and we just can't bear the thought of deleting a series only to discover that it's become a much better show.

We force ourselves to watch our recorded TV shows and if we end up watching a couple in a row that are disappointing we just go back to watching our favorite movies (or TV shows that we've already seen) over and over until we get so bored that we're willing to struggle through one of the current series.

I'm not sure they got the leads right. At least the main family was questionable especially the wife who is a doctor. Very questionable acting skills and not very believeable. I can let the horrible acting from the little girl go because that's pretty much to be expected from very young kids. However the older sister doesn't get that mulligan.

I do like the dude from Avatar as the Terra Nova leader. He fits the role perfectly. Also the doctor's husband actually does seem to fit his role as well. In fact the scenes with those two are by far the best.

Ditto, it's derivative of a bunch of other shows like Lost, Jurassic Park(Spielberg is involved), but by now its tough to make a show like this that's NOT derivative of something.

Was predictable at times and agree with others the family dynamic part was weak and has to improve.

The 2 parts I disliked the most, as someone else said they didn't really explain what destroyed the regular earth, maybe that will come in future episodes. And I hated that they didn't show the guy escaping from jail, one minute he's playing with a laser pointer, the next he's out and escaped, and how much more obvious could it have been the little girl was in the backpack?

But it's at least somewhat interesting so i'll watch a few more and see how it goes.
