Thursday's 2025 Texas A&M Pro Day served as the first or second opportunity for draft-eligible players from the 2024 roster to show off their skillsets in front of representatives for all 32 NFL teams ahead of next month's 2025 NFL Draft. While defensive linemen Shemar Stewart, Shemar Turner, and Nic Scourton are the three Aggies expected to be drafted, several under-the-radar players had impressive workouts.
During OC Collin Klein's first season with the program, the tight end position became an essential part of the offense, leading to the offseason acquisitions of tight ends Tre Watson and Shane Calhoun, who both took advantage of Thursday's Pro Day in every workout, while Calhoun, who spent most of his college football career with East Carolina, had by far the best overall performance of the afternoon.
Utilized as an inline blocker during his one season with Texas A&M, Calhoun only reeled in 3 receptions for 57 yards but entered the program as one of the faster tight ends with plenty of athleticism. However, no one expected his 6'4", 250-pound frame to produce a lighting 4.43 40-yard dash, a 39-inch vertical, and an 11-foot broad jump.
Calhoun has proven to be an exceptional athlete who will likely become a low-round draft selection or a priority undrafted free agent next month. However, if a tight end running a 4.43 40 was on the roster last season, why wasn't he utilized more in the passing game? That won't be answered, but it's always great to witness undervalued players improving their football playing value on the big stage.
Compared to the tight ends who participated in last month's NFL Combine, here is how Calhoun's performance ranks among those players:

Former Texas A&M TE @ShaneCalhoun19 had himself quite the Pro Day. When comparing his numbers to the tight ends at the NFL Combine last month, Calhoun ranks first in the 40 (4.43), first in the broad jump (11-0) and tied for first in the vertical jump (39 inches).
