Texas vs Tennessee softball score: Live updates of series opener between SEC powers

Texas softball begins a crucial stretch of its SEC schedule with a three-game series against Tennessee, beginning with game one Friday at McCombs Field.

Over the next nine days, the No. 1 Longhorns (38-3, 10-2 SEC) will face No. 5 Tennessee (32-8, 7-5) and No. 6 LSU. Texas currently sits atop the SEC standings with a one-game lead over Oklahoma and Texas A&M, a two-game lead over LSU, and a three-game lead over Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi State.

Both Texas and Tennessee lean heavily on workhorse pitchers to chew through innings and rack up wins. Tennessee’s Karlyn Pickens (15-4 record, 0.94 ERA, 153 strikeouts) and Texas junior Teagan Kavan (17-2, 1.51 ERA, 156) join Ole Miss’s Miali Guachino as the only SEC pitchers to throw more than 100 innings so far this season, and they’ll likely start a weekend dual tonight.
