I didn't feel like bumping an old thread (shocking! I know) so here you go.
For summer vet Goodwin, NBA hope springs eternal
LAS VEGAS

Archie Goodwin is about to set a record.

It won't be cause for celebration.

Goodwin is a veteran of 165 NBA games, has scored 20 points on 10 occasions, and had a monthlong stretch with Phoenix two years ago when he started and averaged 16 points per game while playing against a slew of All-Stars in that span.

Oh Archie... you feel like you're not getting a fair shake yet you still can't shoot, pass or defend... the same thing that always plagued you.

But hey, if you want someone, once in a blue moon, to put up a really inefficient 20 points via ball hogging and a series or reckless drives... he's the man to call!

Kind of explains why he has never gotten better. It's not his fault that he isn't making NBA rosters, but because he "isn't getting a fair shake".

Maybe if he took responsibility for not being the player teams want and truly worked on improving the things that teams want to see him be better at he would be having a more successful career right now.

Tragedy with Tyler Honeycutt over the weekend, apparently barricaded himself in a house and then shot himself. There were reports he was texting friends and family telling him he was being "spied on" which was in reality the police helicopters etc over his house as they were all outside with guns.

He had some issues at UCLA, largely had already signed with an agent that nobody knew until that offseason when he turned pro and he didn't pick the same agent for an NBA agent. There had been some talk he'd tried to get back into the NBA and was unhappy it wasn't going anywhere but I also read today he was making nearly 1 million a year wherever he was playing.

2nd former Kings player to commit suicide that I had some personal interest in, Ricky Berry, I was the same year as him in HS and went to his dads basketball camp at SJSU 2 years in a row with Ricky, now Honeycutt an ex UCLA player. I used to exchange messages with his mom on a UCLA board when he was there.

Tragic.

Losing Ariza was a big blow for the Rockets because he was the perimeter defender needed to handle the Golden State Warriors on the perimeter. Signing Anthony would arguably make things even worse.

The Thunder split their regular-season series with the Warriors in 2017-18. In those four games, Oklahoma City had a minus-2.2 net rating when Anthony was on the court, per NBA.com. Just as worrying, Anthony's net rating was minus-14.3 in the Thunder's opening-round playoff loss to the Utah Jazz.

If the Jazz can successfully exploit Anthony so as to make him unplayable, imagine what the Warriors could do over a seven-game series.

NBA Expected To Lower Age Limit In Time For 2021 Draft

Adam Silver revealed he believes the NBA is ready to scrap its one-and-done rule and begin to allow high school players to enter the NBA directly from high school again.

"I'm not here to say we have a problem," Silver said. "And I love where the league is right now. But I think we can create a better system."

Silver expects the new rule to be in place for the 2021 NBA Draft.

Silver was a proponent of making the eligibility age older, up to 20 instead of the current 19, though has changed his stance on that in recent weeks.

"My personal view is that we're ready to make that change," Silver said. "It won't come immediately. But when I've weighed the pros and cons, given that Condoleezza Rice and her commission have recommended to the NBA that those one-and-done players now come directly into the league and in essence the college community is saying `We do not want those players anymore,' I think that tips the scale in my mind."

I've never seen a player just screw his career up like this guy

He's still getting paid now, he's still going to get a big contract soon. He's probably hurt himself a lot in the public eye but it's amazing how so many people put the blame on the Spurs too.

There is something else wrong here, I think. Something that the Kahwi camp is hiding, like a mental breakdown or addiction issue or something. That behavior is just too erratic..

Not really or maybe, not necessarily. I think his uncle has adopted tactics not unlike the ones Rich Paul has used.

Tough week for ex-UCLA basketball players - I saw that Billy Knight just died, too, probably a suicide, and only 39 years old.

Also, Clifford Rozier (of Louisville/UNC fame) and Lonnie Shelton, who many will remember from his Seattle SuperSonics days (and of being former Cardinal L. J. Shelton's dad), passed away this week. Lots of sad news.

Yeah it is but I'm surprised Dumas and Oliver Miller haven't been mentioned yet.

In different fashions they consumed their way out of their careers, but they never reached the heights that Howard fell from and that Leonard seems to be dangling off.

True but who knows how good either player could have become. Regardless, I would have loved seeing those two guys live up to their potential, our history plays out much differently if they were fully committed to basketball.
