They could have still named him the full time starter, but just not for the beginning of the season.

Yeah, but I'm almost positive they didn't. This conversation happened earlier on the board because he was listed as a starter on the ESPN depth chart. I did the research then and found no evidence he was ever named a starter. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I'm pretty sure it didn't.

That’s probably what it was.

Not that I disagree but Payton also had a triple double in one of his first games with the Suns last year. He still hurt us more than helped last year.

That being said, I'd take him over any of our pgs.

I believe he had 3, I know he had 2 for sure. He played well in his first 10 games with us and then fell apart completely. I think he's more fragile than Bender. I know when we got him they talked him Payton and TJ being good friends also as they came into the league together but that was never mentioned after he was here a week. I'm not sure if there was a falling out or not but keeping players with close relationships with other players can be an issue, as we saw with Ulis and Booker. When it can be avoided it should be, unless both are stars. Payton and Ulis are not stars and never will be.

Elfrid with a triple double....nah we didn't need him

It's worth pointing out that he had a cap hold of nearly 10m. We wouldn't have been able to sign Ariza had we retained him.

The Kings are the worst team in the NBA as far as being completely dysfunctional and able to ruin players simply by drafting them. I feel for Bagley and De'Aaron Fox, they don't deserve to be there for Vlade and their terrible owner who traded Cousins for Buddy Hield. The Kings are lucky he Cousins got hurt, if he didn't then he probably stays in New Orleans and that looks like the worst trade ever. Instead he signs with the closest team in proximity to Sacramento in the Warriors for a cheap deal to win a title, whether he returns or not.

Jared Dudley got 35 minutes tonight.

1 point, 0-5, 0-4 3pt, 1-2 from the line, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 fouls.

I think Duds might just want to hang em up.

For anyone questioning if Payton should have been retained:

http://www.82games.com/1718/17PHO6.HTM#onoff

The extent to which he negatively impacted the team on both ends is beyond description. I don't know if the Suns would have done worse playing 4 on 5. He is empty stats. I know he gets rebounds, he gets assists and he can put up a few points, but somehow his team shoots worse, scores WAY less, rebounds worse and defends worse in every stat when he's on the court.

And, as mentioned, his cap hold was like 10 million... and he played like a league minimum player. I think Canaan sucks... I'd take Canaan over Elfrid in an instant, especially when cost is a factor.

Weird to see people posting about how are PGs this year are supposedly better than Payton.

I doubt we saw the best of Payton in a mid season trade with not enough time or sufficient practices to actually get used to the system.

I reckon he'd have played better under Kokoskov's system with a full training camp and pre season here.
Don't forget the haircut!

Patrick Beverley went 0-8 with the Clippers but had 6 assists. He is one of the point guards I'm keeping an eye on as the season progresses.

Payton is better than how he played for us. I am just not sure why he played so badly for us. It was like he did it on purpose.

Pretty sure this is sarcasm, but can we at least all agree that Amin does have an OBVIOUS bias against the Suns? Whether that affects others in and out of his profession is another question.
I don’t think anyone ever said Amin doesn’t

Seems pretty simple to me...he came in mid season with no time to adjust to a completely new system and new players?

He had the whole summer, training camp and pre season with New Orleans to learn their system and build chemistry with their players so he's playing much better for them.

Not a difficult concept to comprehend at least imo.

ONE GAME!! And he had at least one triple double with us, so let's not all go overboard and anoint him as the guy who got away.
