R/T has this at 73%.

I'm guessing that some of these critics either just don't get it, and/or are doing their usual, typical dis on a first sequel. Everything I hear/read from "regular folks" screams "awesome." Can't wait to see it!

typical dis on first sequel? Just in the last couple years with major sequels, they lavished praise on The Dark Knight, Captain America 2, Hunger Games 2 and X-men: Days Of Future Past, which were all first sequels. Other sequels that were derided were Iron Man 2 (easily the worst of the bunch), Thor 2 (a snoozer), Transformers 2 (an abomination)... movies that deserved criticism. Even when looking back further, when a first sequel deserves lavish praise, they've given it with T2, X2, Spiderman 2, etc.

everything I've read it's a ton of fun, but bloated and seems like a big send up for another movie (Civil War), rather then standing on it's own two feet, which is why it's getting knocked.

This movie will make $1 billion in box office, the Tomatometer is kind of irrelevant with that kind of turn out.

it'll make 1 easy... probably within the next two weeks. I'd actually be shocked if it made less 1.5 at this point.

There's a lot packed into the movie.

The hulk/buster fight was my favorite part of the movie.

Gotta say Ultron was just kinda meh compared to the trailers. Just my .02

It was good but it could have benefited from an extra 15-20 minutes. It was about 2:30 as is but needed a little more development/world building for the audience who hasn't followed the solo franchises.

Critics must have read my troll on Stout in the Fantastic Four thread.

Wait, did I miss that? Lol

OMFG, I loved it. Yes, that is a teenie OMFG, just to clarify :D

It was a hell of a romp. I really only had one problem with it, but that was miniscule. Good, good stuff, top to bottom. Whedon knows what he's doing.

Thought it was good, not great. Fun, but not any kind of game changer for me. Cap 2, Iron Man 1, Avengers 1, Guardians all better.

What was the miniscule thing you didn't like?

I answer in the spoiler. Btw, which line did you think was the most brilliant? I absolutely cackled at one of the lines.

The Vision, a total kickass new member of the team, with the power of an infinity stone, just disappeared for long stretches of time. I get that they didn't want the Vision to dominate everything, but it niggled at me.

even with the huge sports saturday, I was pretty floored when I saw the overall domestic boxoffice for Avengers 2 this weekend. Factoring in inflation for 3 years, the goodwill from the Phase 2 Marvel entries and it's very surprising that Avengers 2 took in 187 million... which is still a HUGE RIDICULOUS haul, but 20 million short of it's predecessor and I (and most box office pundits) fully expected it the best that. We'll see in coming days and next weekend the percentage drop and how those numbers hold up against Avengers 1 to see just how much a dent Mayweather made, but I do think some of it had to do with the fact that it wasn't nearly as good as the original, thus you didn't have as many people seeing it multiple times in weekend 1.

I was even shocked at the amount of empty seats when I saw it yesterday at 1:15. I went to the Dome at the Arclight which is THE mega-movie house for movie junkies in LA and it was probably only 80% full.

I thought it was awesome but man did they try and squish a bunch of stuff in there. Marvel just has their act together and Whedon + Marvel is a match made in heaven. I thought there was no way the humor in the first could be matched but there was some really funny moments mixed in flawlessly.

Going to see this again during the week. I feel like I missed some stuff because of all the crazy things going on.

To be fair, the Dome is a HUGE theater and it tends to sell out at night than during the day. But then again, this is a pretty big movie and it's funny that some shows DIDN'T sell out, regardless of location.

Huge fan of Scarlet Witch now...

I thought it really showed what a piece of steaming crap Superman was. In that movie, Superman basically destroys a city to get to the baddy. In this, the heroes actually spend most of the final fight actually protecting a city.

It also really played on the themes of what a hero is. A lot of people just see it as a philosophy difference between Cap and Stark but it went far deeper than that. Not to get into spoilers but Hawkeye was as much the hero as anyone in this movie.

Conversely it also heavily delved into their weaknesses. Those with the most power were often the most fragile.

Avengers 1 was a 4 color romp.

Avengers 2 brought some depth I didn't feel Avengers 1 had

enjoyed the movie but it was not as good as I had expected. They tried to put too much into it...and it was very busy...just like iron man 3 was very busy,,...with 50 suits all flying around at the same time

it dropped like a ROCK on Monday domestically. All huge movies usually do, but it fell wayyyyyyyy below The Avengers, TDK and even TDKR on it's first monday, which means one of two things is happening... superhero fatigue is FINALLY starting to kick in or the critics were right. It was just good, not great... which I totally agree with.

is anyone else confused by Tony Stark retiring in back to back movies? they made a big deal out of it in Iron Man 3... and then he was back without a word (kinda like making a big deal out of Thor never being able to get back to Earth at the end of Thor and then just magically appearing out of nowhere in the Avengers). And now, he says he's hanging it up again at the end of Ultron... only we know he'll be back for Civil War. It's a stupid plot point to keep going back to, IMO.

Yeah but I think that is accurate with one of the continuities of the comics. In the comics after he created sentient Armor (Ultron Imperative) he became leery of any technology, quite being Iron Man and gave away his fortune. If I remember correctly what drew him back in was something that happened with the Scarlett Witch and the newer Avengers which leads into the Civil War story line. He wanted to give it all up but keeps getting drawn back in.

and that would be fine... if they actually mined that story more and really gave it as the motivation for Tony retiring, but it was so glossed over. and even if they were going to do that as is, he literally JUST retired in the last Iron Man 3. they hit the same beats over and over again and it's just getting tired.

along the same lines... they keep killing characters in their movies... trying to make big emotional moments and then reviving them. They've done it with Loki TWICE, Agent Coulson, Nick Fury and now Jarvis. They've gone down the Rocky road of having to give motivation by killing their Mickey/Apollo's... which is pretty weak in of itself... but at least those guys STAYED DEAD. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Quick Silver somehow came back to life in the next Avengers movie at this point even though he was riddled with bullets.
